Job Title: Hard Coat Engineer

Summary
Supports Hard Coat process and equipment at coating facilities to reduce down time and improve yields. This is a hands on job, so Engineer must be able to work on manufacturing floor
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops understanding of Hoya hard coating, and backside spin coating processes and equipment
- Develops a well-rounded knowledge and understanding of equipment operation. To include but not limited to electronic or computer controls, electrical wiring, mechanical operations, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Provides remote technical support to labs to troubleshoot equipment or process issues
- Travels to HOYA Hi-vision Centers in USA to trouble shoot, repair, upgrade, or installed equipment or processes
- Follows established procedures regarding hazardous chemicals handling, transportation, and disposal
- Trains lab staff on equipment operation, maintenance and troubleshooting
- Works towards reducing downtime due to equipment failure in Coating facilities and reducing occurrences of failures
- Implements and monitors yields and KPIs for hard coating operation
- Works continuously to reduce spoilage in the manufacturing process
- Installs new processes in labs and provides appropriate training
- Prepares detailed procedures for the different processes, troubleshooting steps, and maintenance of equipment and verify procedures are followed
- Makes sure that processes and products meet HOYA or FDA requirements
- Tests, validates, and develops processes for new products
- Confers with management and engineering staff to implement plans and recommendations.
- Coordinates and oversees equipment installation and lab redesign. Supports layout redesign, installation of equipment and utilities, and verifies installation is executed successfully and on time
- Follows HOYA's or stablished safety regulations when working on equipment
- Is able to communicate (read, write, speak) English

Travel Requirements - Must be able to travel at least 50% of time domestically. This may include weekend travel. Weekends include Friday nights, anytime on Saturday or anytime on Sunday based on business needs.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred
- A total of three to five years of previous work experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably within an optical manufacturing environment supporting and maintaining processes or equipment
- Course work or experience troubleshooting and supporting coating processes
- Course work or experience troubleshooting equipment electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic operations
Knowledge and Understanding of the Following Areas:
- Raw materials, hazardous chemicals, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, leadership techniques, production methods and coordination of people and resources.
- Machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Monitoring performance of self and others to make improvements or take corrective actions
- Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
Physical Demands of Working Environment
Environmental: Laboratory and office environment, working with water, caustic and acidic chemicals and exposed to hazardous chemicals. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Occasional dusty air with flying particulates.
Physical: Sufficient Physical ability necessary for sitting and standing for extended periods of time. The ability to Climb, Kneel, Lift, Pull, Reach, Push, Carry and Twist. Must be able to use hands to Grasp and manipulate small objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 20 LBS and on occasion up to 100 LBS.
Vision: Must be able to see in the normal vision range with or with out correction; Vision sufficient to read computer screens, printed documents, job tickets, faxes, cosmetic defects, procedural and policy documents.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
