Blue Ridge Publishing Company offers multi-media solutions for your marketing and advertising needs. For over 39 years BRP has published a weekly free Shopper paper, The Franklin Shopper. The Franklin Shopper distributes 38,500 copies every Wednesday to drop locations in Franklin County, PA. We belong to the Mid-Atlantic Community Paper Association and the Association of Community Papers. Our circulation is audited on a biennial basis by the Circulation Verification Council.

The Franklin Shopper is truly the one print product in Franklin County, PA where “Buyers Shop First!”. In addition to print we also offer a digital version of our weekly paper, an online classified ad platform and other digital marketing opportunities for businesses.

We are located in Chambersburg, PA in the beautiful Cumberland Valley surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains.

 

About the Position

As an Account Executive for The Franklin Shopper you will be responsible for selling and helping businesses grow by placing advertising in both our print and digital options.

This includes print in our weekly publication and special sections in the Franklin County, PA area, as well as selling digital advertising on our website and other digital products that may be developed (texting, website development, e-blast coupons, etc.). This position involves contacting businesses in person or via phone or e-mail to discuss marketing plans and advertising.

Sales experience is helpful but not necessary. We’re looking for the right attitude and a good fit with our existing sales team. If you have an outgoing personality, a creative streak and good attention to detail you may be the person we are looking for!

We work in a fast paced environment with weekly deadlines. This isn’t a boring “every day is the same” type of role; you’ll be seeing different customers and consistenly presenting fresh ideas.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the local market, the ability to establish long-term client relationships, and a passion for helping businesses succeed through effective advertising.

Primarily Responsibilities

  • Learn and keep up on product knowledge including rates, distribution and any new products developed.
  • Correctly fill out paperwork/online forms in Smart Publisher to schedule ads in a timely manner.
  • Organize daily schedule to efficiently service current customers.  Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and check-ins.
  • Generate leads and acquire new advertising accounts. Prospect for new clients by cold calling and researching new business opportunities.
  • Prepare and present advertising proposals to new and existing clients.
  • Attend weekly sales meetings and other meetings as requested. 
  • Update Smart Publisher tasks daily and meet miniumum required sales calls.
  • Work with the art department to ensure ads are correctly scheduled to meet deadlines and that advertising information is proofed correctly.
  • Keep account payments current and collect past due amounts as requested by management.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and competitor offerings through continuing education:  available webinars, software tools and other venues.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required, college degree preferred.
  • Prior sales experience or business knowledge.
  • Exceptional communication skills as you will be speaking to customers on a daily basis.
  • Above average proofreading and spelling skills.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of computers including Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail, Dropbox.
  • Valid Drivers License, auto insurance and reliable vehicle.
  • Strong knowledge of Franklin County's local business landscape.
