FARM ASSOCIATE, WALPOLE, NH

Job Description:

  • Help remove hens from nesting boxes while gathering eggs
  • May maneuver a push cart along breeder house aisles to collect eggs in nesting boxes
  • Walk through breeder house to collect eggs outside the nesting boxes, and ensure that all birds are moved
  • Transfer flats of eggs from the barn to the egg wash room and record the number of eggs collected
  • Assist in washing eggs and maintain sanitary conditions in the egg wash room
  • Wash and disinfect drinkers daily, and replenish drinkers throughout the day to ensure continuous fresh drinking water for the birds
  • Maintain breeder house living conditions by monitoring and troubleshooting issues with feed lines, drinkers, fans, barns, appearance, nest doors, etc
  • Guide movement of birds within the house
  • Identify and treat any birds with mites
  • Perform manual tasks in extreme hot and/or cold temperatures
  • Ability to follow Animal Care Well Being and Bio-Security policies and procedures

Physical Requirements:

  • Work with chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants
  • Standing for extended periods of time (6 hours)
  • Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists
  • Lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50lbs
  • Bend and stoop repetitively throughout out shift

Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions, and perform simple tasks
  • Ability to perform essential duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to follow Animal Care Well Being and Bio-Security policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain and record egg gathering information
  • Ability to gather eggs in a manner that prevents excessive breakage
  • Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic
  • Ability to perform work that is repetitive in nature
  • Grip, grasp or twist using hands and wrists
  • Working with live animals, and the associated environment
  • Working in a loud/noisy environment
  • Working in an environment with substantial dust circulation

Work Environment

  • Routinely work up to 6 days a week, including weekends and holidays
  • Routine handling and interacting with live poultry
  • Ongoing presence of farm related smells or odors
  • Climate exposure both hot and cold
  • Working in damp and/or wet environment

Summary
This role plays a critical part in overall success of the farm operations. The caretaker has primary responsibility for the general care and welfare of the birds within their facilities
