Center DiscountsGENERAL FUNCTION
The Program Instructor II-Gymnastics will be primarily responsible for providing quality leadership and supervision in gymnastics, tumbling and/or motor skill classes, while maintaining a safe, non-competitive environment for YMCA members.
KNOW HOW
Ø Previous experience in gymnastics or teaching is preferred.
Ø A minimum of 16 years of age.
Ø Basic knowledge of spotting techniques used in gymnastics preferred.
Ø Ability to demonstrate basic technique and form.
Ø Ability to communicate with preschool to middle school aged children.
Ø Visually inspect participation space for safety.
Ø Maintain current certifications in First Aid, Safety & Risk Management, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Supervise participants during class in order to ensure safety.
Ø Introduce yourself and make efforts to recognize members on subsequent visits.
Ø Develop and maintain relationships that promote the building of small communities.
Ø Create a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive.
Ø Arrive for shift on time and dressed appropriately following the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis dress code.
Ø Assist in the set-up and take down of equipment.
Ø Assist/lead class in a safe warm-up.
Ø Be attentive and ready to assist participants on all apparatus.
Ø Spot/assist participants thorough the skills.
Ø Learn and teach proper spotting techniques.
Ø Provide positive and instructional feedback to participants on skill attempts.
Ø Provide coverage for classes in case of your absence and notify the Gymnastics Coordinator.
Ø Provide safe programs and environment for all participants, volunteers and staff.
Ø Be a positive role model and conduct self in accordance with the YMCA Mission.
Ø Incorporate and encourage the use of the YMCA core values.
Ø Attend scheduled department meetings and training/clinics offered.
Ø Actively participate in the Invest-In-Youth annual campaign.
Ø Assist with other projects or activities as needed.
Ø Acquaint members with other YMCA programs and benefits.
