What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Evaluation Engineer position at Hussmann?
This position is responsible for managing a team of Evaluation Engineers and ensuring that all lab testing meets with the appropriate standards. The incumbent will direct the Evaluation Engineer to select and apply standard laboratory procedures and help develop new test procedures as needed to ensure all necessary testing is completed to meet the project goals. The Evaluation Engineering Manager will be responsible for reviewing all reports generated by the Evaluation Engineering group. These reports contain all pertinent testing activities on each lab request in the Lab. The incumbent will develop less experienced engineers with their technical writing as needed. The incumbent will also be responsible for resource planning on all lab testing. It will be the responsibility of the incumbent to manage each team member’s workload, develop their talents, and put each member in a position to succeed with guidance and support from the team. Principal Responsibilities:
- Manage day to day operations of the Evaluation Engineering group and support team to deliver the Hussmann Promise Coordinate testing with the other Hussmann lab locations as a total support function to the systems business.
- Ensure products meet compliance, regulatory, performance and Hussmann Safety requirements.
- Translate project objectives into a schedule of activities covering testing and evaluation.
- Assist in evaluation of test results and make necessary changes in testing program to continue on with test objectives.
- Review and approve reports detailing the objectives and conclusions of each testing project.
- Analyze laboratory test procedures and determine areas of improvement, as necessary.
- Assign Lab resources to projects.
- Attend project team meetings and represent the R&D group.
- Administer PMP process (employee reviews, goal setting) for all direct reports.
- Support employee career development by actively engaging with each employee and their development plan.
- Assist with lab audits, management of the Lab Quality System to ISO 17025, and contribute to the collection of information for lab metrics and productivity measurements.
- Maintain knowledge of all applicable test procedures and standards being utilized in the scope of the Lab.
- Collaborate cross functionally to ensure priority alignment and effective communications across functional teams. This includes feedback on work progress, critiques of design, and explanation of operational issues with testing.
- Provide ongoing assistance to engineers and technicians in problem definition and gathering information. Gives accurate feedback to engineering on projects.
- BS degree in Engineering
- 7 years of direct Evaluation Engineer experience.
- Excellent communication skills, oral & written
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
- Strong project and time management skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Understanding of thermodynamics/refrigeration theory
