Introduction
As a UX Designer on IBM Research's Digital Platform team, which is part of IBM Research Design, you'll be contributing to the way audiences around the world discover, learn about, and engage with our groundbreaking computing technology. You'll help define and refine ways that our researchers communicate their work on early-stage technologies, and how that work translates into real-world impact. Applying a user-centered approach, you'll design experiences that make complex technologies easy to understand and navigate, and help us reach a wider audience.
Your Role and Responsibilities
This is for a 2024 summer internship with the following start dates: May - August or June - September for quarter system schools.
* Design the user experience for elements of Digital Platform products for example the IBM Research Website, Client Portal, and related tools.
* Create user journey maps, user flows, information architecture, site maps, and wireframes to define user experiences.
* Design and demonstrate detailed interaction design through storyboards, mock-ups, and clickable prototypes in Figma.
* Collaborate with Product Managers / Design Researchers to understand user needs and translate requirements into compelling user experiences.
* Collaborate with UI Designers to define end-to-end detailed interfaces and interactions.
* Create prototypes applying the IBM Design language, through the IBM Carbon Design System.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
* Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
* Some exposure to working in multidisciplinary teams, including Developers, Product Managers, and Design Researchers.
* Proficiency working with Figma and Mural.
* Strong understanding of user-centered design principles and practices.
* Strong communication and presentation skills to articulate design decisions and vision to stakeholders.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
* Practical experience in designing interactive digital experiences.
* Interest in IBM Research technology areas e.g., AI / Foundation Models / Generative AI quantum computing, semiconductors.
* Experience applying design systems.
* Knowledge of Carbon Design System.
* Experience conducting/analyzing usability tests.
* Experience working with AirTable, Github and Zenhub
* Experience with data visualization.
