IDCUS Inc. has openings for entry-level environmental scientists in its Houston Office to support a variety of environmental projects involving a range of field and office duties. IDCUS is a mid-sized professional services firm providing engineering, planning, and program/construction management services to public and private clients.
DUTIES: Assist senior environmental scientists with a variety of natural resources field studies including wetland delineations, stream assessments, vegetation and rare plant surveys, avian and wildlife surveys, aquatics surveys, and wildlife habitat assessments. Provide technical assistance for the preparation of key aspects of regulatory documents. Photograph and take detailed notes of habitats, species, and landforms. Communicate effectively with project managers other environmental scientists to complete field work and reporting requirements. Understand project environmental requirements and the applicable laws and regulations protecting environmental resources. Complete desktop analyses, web-based database queries, prepare technical reports describing the methods, results, recommendations, and regulatory background for projects
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related life sciences field required
- Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds is required
- Record and identify fauna, flora, soil characteristics, and hydrology conditions
- Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Word and Excel
- Contribute to preparing documentation addressing the development for a wide variety of projects, including transportation projects, and water development
