The Packaging Supervisor is responsible for directing all shift personnel assigned to his/her shift.  This includes providing direction to work teams, maintaining a safe work environment, and ensuring personnel have successfully completed all required training.

 

Responsibility and Authority:

  • Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assure compliance to all required industry standards and government requirements as stated in the Ideal-Tridon Quality Manual, Quality Management System, process documentation and all Company Human Resources, Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Responsibility and authority to ensure that team members are adequately trained to produce and ship product in accordance with customers’ requirements.
  • Responsibility and authority to shutdown machine operation when quality, safety, or environmental issue arise.  The Shift Supervisor will notify the appropriate manager.
  • Maintain and protect all company, supplier, and customer proprietary and confidential information.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise Packaging manufacturing team members who assemble, package, label, set up, and operate custom automated equipment, which is designed to assemble and package stainless/carbon steel worm gear clamps in high volumes.
  • Ensure that production schedules are met daily while maintaining safety, environmental, quality, and cost objectives. 
  • Lead and direct employee functions such as selection, hiring, and development of employees, including making salary decisions, conducting performance reviews and creating development plans.
  • Manage training of personnel, including sponsor certifications and hands-on training.   Serve as a mentor.
  • Ensure compliance to the Quality System and Environmental Management System.
  • Direct the work teams and supervise the shift’s production efforts to meet the published schedules.
  • Participate and assist in decisions concerning hiring, promotion, discipline and discharge. 
  • Maintain consistently safe work environment and personally demonstrates his/her commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Hold employees accountable for required safety, environmental, quality, and quantity standards and maintaining inspection ready workplace at all times.
  • Ensure team members receive sufficient training to accomplish their roles in a safe and productive manner.
  • Interpret MRP reports to plan, organize and schedule daily high volume production requirements for clamp manufacturing and packaging requirements for the Smyrna facility.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
  • Ensure efficient coordination and processing of high volume work orders and develop a collaborative and effective working relationship with all support functions.
  • Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement activities such as:   implementing and sustaining lean manufacturing tools, and automated inspection requirements, etc.
  • Consistently lead continuous improvement teams/activities: to improve operating efficiencies, reduce costs, identify unfavorable trends concerning downtime, safety and quality issues.
  • Make timely corrections or plans activities with support functions to correct and improve upon such issues.
  • Understand the process for containing nonconforming product and completing a RID.
  • When necessary, act as Smyrna facility Point of Contact in case of an emergency (e.g., medical, work injury, spill, tornado, fire, etc.) and notify the appropriate personnel as shown on the Emergency Contact List contained in the Emergency Action Plan (EHS-20-0038). 

 

Position Requirements:

  • Four year degree in a technical discipline or a combination of appropriate schooling and related experience beyond high school may be substituted for the college degree.
  • Two to five years hands on supervisory experience within preferably high volume manufacturing in metal stamping, assembly and packaging operations.
  • Day-to-day production and packaging of high volume amounts of worm gear clamps requires an individual who enjoys hands on supervision in a fast paced manufacturing environment.
  • Technical skills including: strong mechanical skills, along with working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as lean manufacturing and root-cause analysis, problem solving tools noted above.  Must have strong interpersonal/collaborative and team building skills coupled with organization, communication, motivational traits that will serve to enhance employee morale. 
  • Previous experience in leading and training skilled and operative hourly team members.
  • Consistent record of effectively and respectfully managing shop floor individuals preferably in non-union manufacturing setting.
  • Leadership “make it happen” self-motivated, able to excel in multi-task, high-pace automotive environment.
  • Have shop floor hands-on mindset.  (Not an office type).
  • Computer PC proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Green / Black Belt Certification a plus.
  • Prefer experience using 5 whys, 8Ds, or similar problem solving tools for process and root cause analyses.
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills to build Team environment on assigned shifts.
  • Use patient, consistent and respectful people handling skills.
  • Provide honest and consistently reliable behavior.
  • Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Be self-motivated and require minimal supervision.

 

Physical Requirements:

Frequently stand and walk, and occasionally bend and stoop in order to lift up to 50 pounds.  May drive forklifts and have dexterity to use keyboard for computer and hand tools.   Maintain regular attendance and overtime requirements.  Must have adequate vision to read and understand written instructions.  Communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
