Job Summary: Performs preparation work on component parts for steering columns; assembles components and inspects for quality. May also build steel and chrome columns.
Essential Functions:
- Prepares shafts and tubes for assembly including sorting, cleaning, and layout.
- Glues column shift bases.
- Cleans parts/paints tubes.
- Sub-Assembly of collapsible columns, support castings.
- Installation of release blocks.
- Preparation of various parts for outside processes.
- Conducts Quality checks as required for ISO 9001:2015.
- Participates in Lean process improvement activities and supports 5S initiatives.
- Logs production data and reports production & scrap data accurately.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to assemble and disassemble components.
- Ability to operate required machines and equipment.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to produce quality product in a productive manner.
Working Conditions: Shop environment. Involves standing and sitting. May involve stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling, and exposure to coolant, oils, fumes and smoke.
Tools and/or Equipment Used: Operates manual mill, manual lathe, drill press, grinder, sander, saw, spot welder, MIG welder. Uses variety of hand tools. May run other production-related equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent degree or less than high school with vocational related classes.
- Six months previous experience in shop setting, preferably working on assembly/disassembly of parts and components.
- Preferred prior experience with mill, drill press, grinder, sander, saw, and spot-welding equipment.
- Preferred prior experience with MIG welding.

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
