PRIMARY FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

This full-time paid intern position is an entry-level role within the Africa team designed to provide graduate, undergraduate, or recently graduated students with an insider's view of international development at IFES. The Africa team manages projects across the African continent focused on elections and political processes. As a junior member of the team, the intern will provide administrative and programmatic support to the Africa team's projects. Incumbent of this position will be required to come to the office on a Hybrid schedule when IFES's offices open up.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Senior Program Manager for Africa, possible activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Providing logistical and administrative support to ongoing projects in Africa;
  • Drafting and editing programmatic reports for donors;
  • Making payments, supporting budget development, and tracking expenses;
  • Participating in project implementation and results in monitoring;
  • Conducting research to support business development efforts or other initiatives;
  • Attending and reporting on internal and external meetings and other discussions about assigned projects;
  • Supporting planning and implementation of IFES outreach activities, including website articles and social media posts;
  • Participating in IFES' knowledge management initiatives and other thought leadership efforts; and,
  • Other duties as assigned by the department and/or supervisor.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education:Undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled at an accredited college/university, or recently graduated no more than a year at the time of application, in a field related to development, international relations, political science, etc.

Experience: Relevant experience, familiarity, or interest in international development, elections, or related field preferred. Previous internship(s) experience with an international NGO a plus.

Related Skills or Knowledge: Excellent research and communication skills- both verbally and in writing. Detailed oriented and organized. Ability to prioritize, take direction, and handle varied tasks within deadlines. Collaborative, team-oriented individual. Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of current events and democratic trends in Sub-Saharan Africa. Social media content and/or graphic design skills a plus.

Language Skills: English required. Proficiency in French a bonus.
