Job Description: Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, this position cares for women and newborns. The Labor/Delivery Scrub Tech uses sterile techniques to prepare surgical suites for C-Section and tubal ligation cases, prepares delivery tables for vaginal births, and surgically assists physicians with procedures. Job Essentials Ensures that the patient room is ready to receive the patient with equipment/supplies necessary during the labor and delivery process. May be responsible to ensure that birthing rooms are maintained and stocked appropriately. Assists patients with bed bath/showering, use of bedpan and/or using the restroom, foley catheter care, and ambulation. Obtains and documents vital signs of patients and newborns appropriately before, during, and after delivery. Prepares room for vaginal delivery by preparing and draping the patient, preparing appropriate equipment, including the delivery table, and assisting the RN. Prepares room for C-Section by preparing the patient, scrubbing for appropriate procedures, setting up and passing instruments, completes all instruments, sponge, and sharp counts with RN. Ensures sterility is maintained throughout the operative procedure Understands the plan of care and delivers basic patient care by collecting and documenting patient data and reporting patient changes to the RN. May do clerical duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications BLS Certification for healthcare providers. - and - CNA certification -OR- completion of 1st year of nursing school. - and - Basic understanding of medical terminology. - and - May be required to become IV certified and place patient IV's. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as Labor and Delivery Scrub Tech. Physical Requirements: Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. - and - Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. - and - Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. - and - Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. - and - Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc). - and - May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
