Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a candidate for an Office Assistant in Clinical Services at Murphysboro Life Skills Re-entry Center. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask and respond quickly to the requests of the Clinical Service staff. The candidate will perform a variety of keyboarding and editing duties while communicating effectively electronically. We encourage all qualified applicants to apply.

Job Responsibilities

1.  Processes work release and electronic detention applications submitted by the correctional counselors to assist in individual custody transfers.

2.  Keyboards a variety of difficult material including records, reports, individual in custody review orders, correspondence, forms, investigation/inquiry reports where terminology includes specialized words which are readily checked in available references.

3.  Serves as back-up for Clinical Services, Placement Office, and Bureau of Identification performing clerical functions.

4.  Requests, orders, and distributes special reports needed by other facility staff.

5.  Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties listed above.

Minimum Qualifications

1.  Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and one (1) year of related office experience.

2.  Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 35 wpm.

Conditions of Employment

1.  Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.

2.  Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois.  Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
