Do you believe in the power of play? Imagine Children’s Museum is looking for two full-time Tinker Shop Leads to join our team. Our mission is to utilize playful learning to enrich children’s lives. We provide essential playful learning opportunities to children aged 1-12 and their families or caregivers, through interactive exhibits and unduplicated programs in the museum and outreach programs. Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Working with the public by facilitating the use of the Museum's Tinker Shop
  • Creating a "guest ready" atmosphere in the Tinker Shop
  • Prepare Tinker Shop for opening, closing and reset between sessions.
  • Interact with guests (children and adults) to encourage the exploration of tools and building materials
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in the Museum this will include basic cleaning and maintenance of the Tinker Shop during the day
  • Assist with the integration into educational programs, exhibits, activities and events
  • Assist in the planning, organizing, implementation, coordination/creation of activities and projects for playful learning programs/events
  • Respond to any emergencies
  • Maintain Inventory Records
  • May help support Museum floor, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • A friendly and outgoing personality is a must someone that loves being around active children and families
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with children and adults in a sometimes extremely fast-paced environment
  • Ability to direct volunteers when needed
  • Possess initiative and the ability to self-direct not requiring continuous supervision
  • Ability to go with the flow in the midst of changing conditions throughout the work day
  • Be available for evening and weekend work.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Customer service experience desired.
  • Experience working with various basic woodworking tools.
  • Experience facilitating group activities with children and adults desired.

  • High level of public contact.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk for long periods of time, climb ladders and stairs.
  • Occasionally lift and or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Speak and hear sufficiently to communicate clearly in person and in small groups.
  • Ability to bend, carry, reach to the side, front and overhead, push, pull, walk, stand, twist and squat, grab, squeeze are repetitive motions required of the position.
  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor elements including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and wind.
  • Regularly exposed to moderate noise in and around exhibits.
  • Occasionally exposed to small and/or enclosed spaces.
