Summary 

The Machine Operator operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Operate most machines in the machine shop. 
  2. Select positions and secures tools in tool holders (Chuck, Collet or turret).  
  3. Ensure quality and dimensional tolerances by replacing worn or broken tools and changing chucks, collet pads, holding fixtures and tool holders as required.
  4. Assist Machinist during set up of machine.
  5. Ensure highest quality is maintained on all parts being produced through proper use of measuring devices, visual and mechanical inspection, and SPC techniques.
  6. Maintain all equipment used in good working condition by oiling, greasing and periodically freeing equipment of chips. 
  7. Maintain simple records, data sheets, and work orders and to avoid time consuming and costly errors.  
  8. Operate equipment in such a manner that raw materials are used to their best advantage and tools are protected against breakage.
  9. Stack, mark and transport finished work pieces to next operation.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications 

Education and Experience 

  1. High School Degree or equivalent required and minimum of 1 year experience working in a machine shop. 
  2. Ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
  3. Must be familiar with various measuring instruments used for checking the quality of work performed and be able to work from shop drawings. 

 

Skills and Competencies

  1. Fluent in reading and speaking English

 

Computers and Technology

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

  • This position requires repeated movement
  • Vision – 20/20 (or corrected) Near Vision — the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Hearing at 100% (or corrected)
  • Pulling/Pushing up to 100 pounds with assistance
