Summary
The Machine Operator operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Operate most machines in the machine shop.
- Select positions and secures tools in tool holders (Chuck, Collet or turret).
- Ensure quality and dimensional tolerances by replacing worn or broken tools and changing chucks, collet pads, holding fixtures and tool holders as required.
- Assist Machinist during set up of machine.
- Ensure highest quality is maintained on all parts being produced through proper use of measuring devices, visual and mechanical inspection, and SPC techniques.
- Maintain all equipment used in good working condition by oiling, greasing and periodically freeing equipment of chips.
- Maintain simple records, data sheets, and work orders and to avoid time consuming and costly errors.
- Operate equipment in such a manner that raw materials are used to their best advantage and tools are protected against breakage.
- Stack, mark and transport finished work pieces to next operation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Degree or equivalent required and minimum of 1 year experience working in a machine shop.
- Ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
- Must be familiar with various measuring instruments used for checking the quality of work performed and be able to work from shop drawings.
Skills and Competencies
- Fluent in reading and speaking English
