What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fabricator position at IMI Industrial Services Group?
Individual should possess basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the fabricating field. They rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job, and they work under immediate supervision.
Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. They may transfer from one task to another as they are directed. Generally these employees may specialize in certain or a few fabricating and welding processes and fabricating and welding positions. They are required to assist with maintaining tools and equipment, and they will perform various cleanup and housekeeping activities. They are to observe and follow all safety rules and procedures set forth by Industrial Mechanical, Inc. and OSHA. These employees may report to a Foreman, General Foreman, or a Project Manager.
Tasks that Fabricators are required to be able to perform include, but are not limited to:

Tasks that Fabricators are required to be able to perform include, but are not limited to:
- Lay-out, fit, and assemble formed components to assemble structural components, such as machinery frames, ovens, tanks, pressure vessels, catwalks, and grating.
- Fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment from various materials including carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.
- Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as saws, grinders, brakes, drills, rolls, and shears.
- Accurately apply intermediate mathematical skill, including measuring, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and conversion of fractions and decimals.
- Read blueprints, sketches, technical shop manuals, and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Ability to read parts lists and determine if all required parts are present.
- Verifies conformance of work piece to specifications, calipers, micrometers, squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
- Knowledge of the characteristics and properties of various metals.
- Knowledge of the properties of various welding rods and fluxes used in welding metals.
- Operate soldering and welding equipment including mig, tig, stick welder, and torches.
- Develop layout and plans sequence of operations, applying knowledge of trigonometry, stock allowances for thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and physical properties of metal.
- Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy based on quantifiable information.
- Provide mentoring to both Fabricator Helpers and Fabricator Trainees.
