Trinity Biotech is seeking to appoint an Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Specialist to the IT function. This position will report to the Chief Information Officer and will be based in our Earhart facility in Buffalo NY. 

This position will work with our sites in the United States predominantly but will also involve working with the IT team in Ireland and certain business functions there. 

The successful candidate will come from an diagnostic/laboratory background with strong business analysis and software system management skills. Excellent leadership, project management, communication and presentation skills and the ability to deal at all levels of an organization are essential.   

Main Responsibilities:

  • Learn the Trinity Biotech software systems with emphasis on laboratory systems
  • Map and document business processes / workflows
  • Adjust / automate business processes to facilitate ease of understanding, flow of information and reporting
  • Create knowledge content for all systems and assist with software training where necessary
  • Act as a liaison between the Lab, the IT department and 3rd party vendors
  • Other duties as required by the CIO / Senior management

 

System Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Helps ensure continuous operation of LIS and related systems.
  • Understand and document the LIS configurations.
  • Projects include version upgrades of laboratory and pathology information systems, point-of-care systems, digital pathology systems, and workflow analysis and optimizations for the laboratory. 
  • Functions as project manager and the primary team liaison between IT and the laboratory end-users to ensure efficient workflow design, system build for customization, and optimization of LIS.
  • Interacts with system and support vendors as needed.
  • Serves as the relevant clinical laboratory and LIS/application expert to team members, other applications personnel, and end-users/business owners on LIS integration and touch-point areas.
  • Introduces system connectivity to remove manual input tasks between systems. 
  • Provides highest-level expertise in design integration and touch points with LIS and/or other applications.
  • Acts as system manager of the LIS and reviews/approves all change requests and testing documentation.
  • Assigns tasks and leads all aspects of the analysis, testing, and implementation of updates, changes, and maintenance to LIS and related applications. Ensures end-users/business owners are advised.
  • Is familiar with compliance requirements and updates to regulations surrounding LIS and related systems. 
  • Mentors and motivates team members and coordinates team member work for quality and compliance.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the integration of end-user/business owner needs and translates clinical/operational needs and workflow into system specifications and configuration requirements.
  • Ensures adequate documentation is provided for support, end-user training, and compliance/accreditation.
  • Provides support and input into system validations with the QA teams.
  • Provides content and maintains application/system-associated knowledge documents for troubleshooting, education and IT Services.

 

Requirements:

 

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and training is required.
  • Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) preferred

 

Experience

  • Five years relevant laboratory information systems (LIS) experience
  • Technical specialist and functional knowledge of assigned LIS.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
