Crane Operator (NCCCO Certified)
Summary Description: The Crane Operator operates mobile and other cranes to lift, move, and position loads on construction worksites.
Company Description: Impetus, a Palmisano Company, is a general contractor that provides construction services in various spaces, including commercial, civil, industrial, pre-fabrication, historic, healthcare, hospitality, design-build, self-perform, multi-family, urban mixed-use, and arts and culture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set up and inspect cranes and other heavy equipment.
- Operate cranes, including truck swing cab cranes and fixed cab cranes.
- Keep cranes and associated equipment clean and in good working order.
- Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chains, and covers.
- Use cable equipment to lift and move materials, machinery, and other heavy objects.
- Use hand signals or transmit voice signals through a radio to give and receive directions to and from other workers.
- Inspect and prepare loads.
- Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
- Prepare and execute lift plans.
- Select rigging gear.
- Operate other heavy equipment, including backhoes, dozers, loaders, scrapers, and compactors.
- Perform pre-inspection, startup, and function tests, including checking oil, grease, water, tires, fuel, etc.
- Clean cranes, other equipment, and workplaces and jobsites.
- Make minor repairs to company cranes and other heavy equipment.
- Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel.
- Interpret load charts and operator’s manual.
- Manually move material from one place to another.
- Keep records and logs.
- Complete job tickets and other paperwork.
- Drive company trucks.
- Assist with warehouse and logistics operations as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school diploma, or equivalent.
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL).
- National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification for fixed and swing cranes.
- National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) certification for rigging.
- 3 years of experience as a certified crane operator on fixed and swing cranes.
- Knowledgeable in OSHA Regulations and ANSI standards in crane operations.
- Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
- Exceptional relationship building, listening, and communication skills.
