What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Coordinator position at Indianapolis Zoo?
The Indianapolis Zoo is actively on the hunt to add an Accounting Coordinator to our dynamic Finance team.
The Accounting Coordinator is significantly involved with tracking the corporate MasterCard program, managing contract and grant paperwork and maintaining contracts and grant files. This position contributes to the monthly closing process by completing assigned tasks, including account reconciliations and entering journal entries. Additionally, this position reviews accounts payable vouchers prior to payment, and serves as a back-up to the Accounts Payable Clerk.
The ideal candidate is committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. At least two (2) years of related work experience with accounting knowledge is required. Strong organizational skills are vital to ensure maximum responsiveness to multiple demands while ensuring accuracy and creating a positive customer experience for both internal and external customers. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position that will work consistently Monday through Friday. Some weekend and evening hours may apply due to peak season demands.
Requirements and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Two (2) years of related work experience in the accounting field. Prior work experience in a non-profit setting is highly desirable.
- Associates degree (or equivalent credit hours) in Accounting or similar subject from an accredited institution is required.
- General accounting knowledge and computer experience required along with strong mathematical and grammatical skills.
- Must be team oriented.
- Must be comfortable working in Excel, Outlook, Word, and NetSuite.
- Must be able to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
- Completes monthly account reconciliations in a timely manner. Prepares and enters corresponding journal entries.
- Handles contract and grant paperwork by gathering, distributing, tracking, and scanning documents.
- Reviews and approves accounts payable vouchers.
- Distributes monthly financial reports to Zoo leadership.
