What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool Maker III position at Indium Corporation of america?
JOB SUMMARY: The Tool Maker III is responsible for performing a variety of complex manual duties and use independent thinking to process and complete tooling used in the operation of Indium machinery and leads and mentors less experienced Tool Makers. Work is self-directed and performed independently.
JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES):
- Fabricate tooling as specified by the Tool Design Manager
- Assign and evaluate the work of less experienced Tool Makers
- Choose, set up, troubleshoot and operating machine tools, such as lathes, milling machine, sharpeners, and grinder, to fashion tooling, and mentor other employees in same
- Estimate labor hours and materials to build as quoted tooling or repairs
- Lubricate machines and maintain department equipment as necessary to create required tooling
- Complete all required documentation to track work, record scrap, maintain the accuracy of completed parts and required inventory and recommend statistical recording improvements
- Create, read and interpret complex drawings and diagrams and perform related tasks
- Perform sharpening, CAD functions, and welding operations when necessary
- Work with others to teach a variety of different tooling functions with minimal scrapped parts
- Suggest changes in design involving application, economy and process of manufacture to appropriate personnel and identify and troubleshoot key areas of improvement in operating functions and effectively communicate these to management
- Make determinations regarding a variety of support tools such as mics, gages, lathes, dies and hand tools
- Communicate effectively at a technical level both within and outside the department
- Uphold the standards necessary to maintain our business certifications and to maintain good quality standards and practices associated with them
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 8 years related work experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to design custom tooling and fixtures
- Experience with machining equipment including EDM
- Experience interpreting dimensional drawings
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Advanced math skills
- Strong organizational skills
