Structural (Bridge) Designer - EIT

Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, PLLC is actively seeking a self-motivated Structural Designer - EIT to join the Design Team in Charleston, SC to support various transportation projects. Once qualified candidates have been identified, the recruiting team will schedule phone interviews. The Structural Designer will be assigned to the Daniel Island Office.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for analyzing and designing structural components for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation related structural systems. Job duties include structural design utilizing AASHTO and other applicable design specifications as well as state and local design requirements. Job duties also include seismic design, load ratings, QA/QC, and communication with co-workers, other disciplines at ICE, subconsultants and clients.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop effective designs, details, drawings, and specifications for transportation structures that could include pre-stressed concrete girder bridges, pre-stressed concrete hollow-cored slab bridges, steel plate girder bridges, reinforced concrete flat slab bridges, retaining walls, noise walls, box culverts, etc.
- Coordinate with project team, contractors, vendors, and other consultants to ensure compliance with engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design requirements
- Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD Specifications, AASHTO Standard Specifications, AREMA Specifications, and state-specific design criteria/specifications
- Provide internal quality control for construction drawings, design calculations and specifications to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability
- Work with the project manager to ensure projects are completed on schedule and under budget
- Must be able to independently manage project tasks
- Maintain organized documentation/archives of design files, drawings, and construction submittals
- Proactively communicate with co-workers, other disciplines at ICE, subconsultants and clients
- Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary
Education and Experience Requirements
- BS Degree in Civil Engineering required
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering desired
- EIT Certification is required
- 2-3 years of experience in structural design preferred
- Strong computer skills including MS Office suite and Microstation
- Strong communication skills are expected, both oral and written
- Familiarity with LEAP Bridge, CSI Bridge, and/or other commonly used structural design software packages is preferred
- Experience with SCDOT Bridge Design practices is preferred
- Knowledgeable in job cost, scheduling, safety, and construction concepts
Travel or Environment Requirements
- Must have dependable transportation to attend meetings or to make field visits
- Visually observing and differentiating details and colors of objects
- Recognizing sound, tone, and pitch; speaking and writing clearly and effectively
- Adjusting to interruption and changes
- Sitting for extended periods
- Working in hot, cold, and noisy work areas; standing, and walking when visiting job sites
Expected Hours of Work
- This position will be a full-time position (40 hours per week)
- The office is open from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday
