The Club
Innis Arden Golf Club, founded in 1899, is a member-owned private club in Old Greenwich, CT. The Club features dining, golf, racquet sports, a fitness center, an active swim program, a café, and bowling. In 2022 the club invested in a brand new paddle facility with four new courts and a 60,000 sq. ft Clubhouse opening in May 2023.
The Opportunity
The Food and Beverage Manager is directly responsible for all front-of-the-house staff. He/she will need to be a visible, hands-on, and accessible leader to both members and staff alike. The position requires a high degree of grace, visibility, and a passion for delivering personalized service.
The Food and Beverage Manager role and duties include but are not limited to:
- An understanding of both front and back of the house operations
- Professionally receives and resolves member complaints.
- The ability to recruit and develop top talent for our F & B team.
- Communicates necessary information and provides objective and constructive feedback to employees. Takes the time to listen to employee concerns and deals with any challenges promptly.
- Assist the Front Desk Manager with reservations. Responsible for floor plans for both lunch and dinner.
- Establishes written service protocols, effectively conducts formalized food, beverage, and wine training programs, and ensures that staff training is ongoing and comprehensive.
- Assists the Clubhouse Manager with providing an effective internship program and helps recruit suitable interns for the food and beverage department.
- Implement an effective orientation program using rotational educational and training activities to ensure interns have a comprehensive and satisfying internship experience.
- Actively works with staff on the floor to train and enforce established service standards.
- Conducts pre-meal meetings and complements this training with wine education.
- Updates the wine list by regularly changing bottle and by-the-glass offerings and consistently presents the list professionally and attractively.
- Regularly rotates the specialty drink menu, and provides bartender training practices to ensure that beverage service, techniques, recipes, and presentation are progressive and evolving.
- Ensure that product store rooms are neat and orderly
- Performs monthly beverage inventory
- Responsible for all beverage and wine orders.
- Works with the Clubhouse Manager to develop both operating and capital budgets
- Has knowledge of POS systems, Clubsoft a plus.
- Conducts regular and effective performance reviews for each full-time and regularly scheduled part-time employee.
- Orders and maintains a sufficient inventory of staff uniforms for the food and beverage staff.
- Ensures that employee standards of dress and grooming are consistently met.
- Assures the correct appearance of dining rooms, bar, and other F & B rooms are in order.
- Performs facility closing procedures to ensure that Club buildings are protected and secure.
- Attends approved seminars, workshops, and meetings to keep abreast of current information and developments in the field to enhance his or her value and quality of services to the Club.
- Performs any additional duties assigned by management.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or related hospitality management degree required
- Minimum of 2-5 years of food service supervisory experience with an emphasis on fine dining.
- Knowledgeable in food and beverage cost controls, with a significant emphasis on wine.
- Has a professional demeanor and presence.
- Experienced with establishing and maintaining training programs.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully lead and motivate a diverse workforce.
- Proficient in Point of Sale Systems, Microsoft, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong oral and written communication skills required
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Required to stand for long periods and walk, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, or reach.
- Push, pull, or lift up to 20 pounds.
