Position Details
Insignia is looking to fill an opening for a Lead Field Biologist, who will embody Insignia’s vision to be our clients’ most trusted partner, always delivering excellence with integrity. Responsibilities include biological fieldwork, protocol-level surveys for special status species, for project territories that extend throughout the state of Arizona. The Lead Field Biologist will also be responsible for conducting pre-activity survey reports, biological surveys, habitat assessments, vegetation surveys, sensitive species surveys, and conducting wetlands/waters mapping. This position is full time and can require working up to 12 hours per day, 6 days per week for a minimum of 6 weeks, beginning late March 2023.
Job Description
- Conduct biological field surveys, including biological resource assessments, special-status species surveys, vegetation mapping, and wetland delineations.
- Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including the collection of spatial data.
- Accurately record field data and observations via standard digital field recording devices.
- Prepare daily reports, inclusive of photographs documenting biological resources of interest.
- Accurately identify the presence of potential impacts to sensitive species.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in biology, ecology, botany, or a related science
- Technical expertise in one or more aspects of field biology, such as botany, wildlife biology, or wetland biology; for wildlife biologists.
- Minimum five years or more of experience conducting pre-activity biological surveys, habitat assessments, and water mapping.
- Two years or more of demonstrated fielding experience with desert habitats, sensitive species, and ecosystems in Arizona.
- Working knowledge of GPS, Trimble, Fulcrum, and other data entry devices.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as confidence in dealing with clients, and team members.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct biological fieldwork and surveys in a team-oriented setting.
- Rigorously detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.

- Willingness and ability to travel when needed.
- Willingness and ability to work fluctuating and/or long hours as necessary.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to walk and hike through varying degrees of difficult terrain while prioritizing safety.
- Ability and willingness to perform job responsibilities in inclement weather conditions.
