We are looking for a Sustainability Programme Manager to lead key elements of large-scale, high impact programmes within the food industry and help deliver positive social and environmental impact.
About the role
The role will require your analytical skills to deliver evidence-based solutions and recommendations that drive change towards a more sustainable food system. You’ll act as an ambassador for IGD’s sustainability agenda both internally and externally, developing and managing a network of stakeholders and delivery partners to inform our approach and maximise impact.
You’ll be responsible for delivering key elements of one or more of IGD’s Sustainability programmes, with a focus on environmental data, methodologies, systems, reporting and governance.
The responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, these include:
Programme management
Are you as excited as we are about organising projects and programmes to address complex sustainability topics?
- Project managing, owning and delivering of specific Sustainability projects within agreed timelines and budgets.
- Monthly reporting on progress against KPIs for your areas of responsibility - identifying risks, opportunities and recommending contingencies.
- You’ll be working with colleagues, industry, delivery partners and external consultants to develop and deliver relevant content for your projects (including reports, presentations, briefing notes, online content, etc).
- You’ll also be developing your expertise, including delivering and interpreting research and evidence around environmental methodologies, data, systems and governance to make recommendations and to inform our overall strategy.
- And you will be using insights and data to inform and continually improve IGD’s sustainability programmes.
Stakeholder management and communication
Are you enthusiastic about bringing stakeholders together to help deliver positive social and environmental impact?
- Contributing to preparation and delivery of project relevant industry working groups to inform our approach, drive engagement and maximise social impact.
- Nurturing a network of external stakeholders to support your projects, particularly in the landscape of environmental methodologies, data, systems, reporting and governance. You’ll be representing IGD at external meetings with industry and wider stakeholders including technical experts.
- Working with the Marketing team, you will help us to develop effective communications plans for your areas of responsibility, to raise awareness and drive engagement with our Sustainability programmes.
- And you will raise awareness of Sustainability activities across IGD, ensuring internal understanding, supporting colleagues wherever appropriate.
What you bring
Essential:
- Experience working across the environmental sustainability agenda
- Strong project management skills – being well organised and capable of working under pressure, adopting a flexible approach to changing priorities.
- Highly motivated with the ability to drive programmes forward under your own initiative and the flexibility to work across a range of Sustainability issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, experience managing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
- A team player with the ability to collaborate with colleagues across the organisation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Desirable:
- Educated to degree level in sustainability or environment.
- Experience working in or with the UK food and consumer goods industry
- Experience of working in or with Scope 3 reporting or environmental labelling.
- Technical experience with one or more of: environmental methodologies, life cycle assessment, environmental data, systems, reporting and governance.
- Analytical skills – experience analysing, interpreting and presenting data, conducting research and delivering science-led solutions.
