Primary Objective of Position

Leads the engineering function, including duties associated with planning engineering programs, reviewing design and method recommendations, purchasing equipment, and ensuring that engineering activities align with organizational objectives. Leads cross-functional teams to ensure successful product outcomes from concept to production and market introduction.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Provides leadership to, and coordinates the efforts of: Design Engineering, Tooling Development, and New Technology/Materials Development.
  • Develops and leads cross-functional teams aimed at improving the new product processes, while utilizing Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Coordinates with Sales and R&D to support successful launch of new materials and technologies.
  • Develops and ensures high quality idea-to-launch and portfolio management processes.
  • Stays on top of process and performance benchmarks and new best practices that surface in the marketplace, garnering expertise internally as well.
  • Conducts post-launch-reviews for the purpose of spotting new practices that work and discern patterns around what doesn’t.
  • Provides technical leadership in development process, including implementation of Design for Manufacturability standards to ensure product design meets customer needs and technical requirements.
  • Actively seeks ways to improve current manufacturing methods and technologies that add value to Intek and its customers, by employing the best practices known in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Engages and continuously builds internal and external customer relationships.
  • Ensures components, materials, and tools effectively and efficiently utilized.
  • Develops and implements strategic plans for the Engineering team that align with company visions and initiatives.
  • Evaluates, justifies, and executes on Capital needs per Strategic Plan.
  • Every employee is expected to support the INTEK Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with our Quality System Manual and Documented Procedures. This position is responsible to set, follow and maintain the QMS and related Documented Procedures. This position also has change authority over their processes.
  • Involve a cross-functional team at a variety of levels within Intek, from senior executives to project leaders and team members.
  • Ensure all team members understand the role they are to play and how to execute it in a high-quality manner, continuously improving our design for manufacturability (right the first time).
  • Provide measureable goals and objectives, consistent and timely performance feedback.
  • Meet with team members regularly to review each individual’s progress on assigned projects, providing advice and direction, as needed.
  • Provide each engineering associate with an opportunity to enhance their skills with outside training/classes/workshops that are appropriate to that associate’s job assignment, overall skill set, or area of interest. Teaches, trains, and develops employees at all levels, provide relatable transfer of knowledge.
  • Stays current with engineering technology and trends; providing information to stimulate the ideas of others within the company to make use of new technology.
  • Work with plant management in evaluating manufacturing equipment and help determine recommendations about what to purchase, support accurate and detailed cost analysis and justifications.
  • Communicates with stakeholders to determine engineering and tooling needs and priorities and develops appropriate solutions considering desired/defined project objectives, timelines, and cost.
  • Keeps department current with overall company performance and objectives, ensuring that all understand how their activities are a key part of achieving company and customer objectives.
  • Meets with Customers, as needed, to ensure a complete understanding of requirements and/or to explore better ways of doing things, always conscious of making a favorable impression of Intek as a caring and capable supplier.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering field. Master’s preferred.
  • 5 years of custom profile extrusion experience and tooling design with increasing responsibility required.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience of technical staff is required.
  • Thermoplastic materials technology development experience required.
  • Demonstrated Extrusion Tool & Die competency.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization skills to coordinate workflow with other projects.
  • Must have demonstrated ability as a results-oriented individual and a continuous learner.
  • Strong decision maker and independent thinker.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office, CAD/CAM programs including SolidWorks and other relevant software.
  • Demonstrated conflict management capability and proven ability to influence and negotiate.

Responsibility for Work of Others

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to regularly lift (weekly) up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, twist and carry tools or materials over the course of

8 – 10-hour shift.

  • Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Salaried (exempt) employees are expected to work an average of 45 or more hours per week unless otherwise determined by their Manager.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $121,000.00 - $139,000.00 per year
