Librarian (Research & Cataloging) – Government Contractor

Intelligence Federal seeks a Librarian to support a federal government agency. This position will predominantly focus on cataloging, technical processing, and library systems. As the only cataloguer on staff, this Librarian will perform “end-of-the-line” activities requiring a high degree of accuracy and thoroughness. The ideal candidate is experienced in working as a librarian in a federal government setting and technically savvy.

Location: Central Washington, DC. On-site five (5) days per week.

This is a full-time position eligible for Intelligence Federal’s excellent benefits package.

Job Duties Include:

Provide resources and research support to agency employees

Perform cataloging-related duties and projects for agency using the Library Services Platform (LSP) and discovery service

Uphold catalog integrity and maintain an accurate and up-to-date LSP for agency staff

Work with Library staff to recommend cataloging protocols, create electronic records, or bring current records up to Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, second edition (AACR2) or Resource Description and Access (RDA) standards

Correct call number discrepancies

Manage approximately 2 dozen databases through single-sign on service for agency staff stations

Prepare and upload digitized resources into the digital asset management system including original cataloging for event recordings and other unique digital assets

Host trainings and presentations for virtual and in-person audiences, as well as staff

Maintain an excellent reputation for quality resources and programming, as well as timely and thorough customer service

Run Analytics and statistical reports in Alma/Primo as requested

Perform shared office duties including answering phones, checking out materials, and interacting with patrons

Requirements:

Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States

Must be able to obtain and hold a Public Trust Clearance

Masters Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association

Two (2) years of professional library experience within the last five years performing cataloging duties, including original and copy cataloging for monographs, serials, government publications, and electronic resources using the following:

AACR2 and rule interpretations or current RDA cataloging standards

Library of Congress Classification Scheme

Library of Congress Subject Headings

MARC Bibliographic Format

International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD) punctuation rules

Recent experience providing cataloguing and serials service in a special library, government, corporate, or non-profit setting preferred

Must be able to perform cataloging duties with an eye for detail and near perfect accuracy of information

Previous experience using Ex Libris Alma/Primo as the main LSP/discovery platform preferred but not required (Please include this experience in your resume or cover letter.)

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-based office environment
