The Job You Will Perform:
- This position is in the Power Manufacturing Solutions Group, and provides technical guidance and direction to our mill teams in the Turbine Generator, Gas Turbine, and mechanical drive turbine areas. Specific areas of support and expertise includes operation, unit surveillance, basic care, time and conditioned based maintenance per company policies and proven practices. This support will include a combination of remote and travel to mill locations. Expected travel is 50 – 70%. You will be expected to learn all the specific units in the 27 mill system and the mill team members that operate and manage these units.
- Safety – Set the right example and demonstrate Safety Leadership to assure a safe working environment and expectations. Ensure proper planning and safe work plans are in place for our contractors and our mill teams.
- Operations Improvement and Process Improvement - Provide training programs to support the mills in operations and maintenance of the power generation equipment to ensure safety and reliability. Support the investigation of major incidents to identify root cause(s), develop corrective action plans, and disseminate the information to the enterprise
- Technical Assistance – Provide technical assistance to the manufacturing organizations and International Paper staff and management. Support the company facilities with maintenance information and programs where needed on turbine generator equipment. Provide support and leadership in execution of maintenance programs such as STEP, STORM, BASIC CARE. Provide onboarding and training for mill TG outage coordinators and participate in the outage planning process. Ensure Policy and Best Practices are communicated and understood, and support adherence to policy for the protection of assets.
- Outage Support – Coordinate with other Turbine Technology team members to support on site for all Major Inspections of turbine steam path and generator to assure asset preservation and long term planning. Provide an interface with OEM field service, factory, and other groups to assure that the highest quality performance. Foster an environment of teamwork and alliance partnerships to reduce the overall cost to International Paper. This would include routine interface on pre-outage, outage, post-outage, and day to day support as needed.
- Capital Project Management - Provide technical input and guidance for Turbine Generator major capital investment opportunities. Support the improvement of current company power generation equipment, and the selection and installation of new equipment, upgrades, and improvements at our facilities. Utilize Best Practices and the project development process (PDP).
- People Development/Relationships - Maintain relationships, provide assistance with training and development of mill team members. Mentor upcoming power leaders in the areas of Turbine Generators, policy, and suggested proven practices. Keep the Manager of Power Manufacturing Solutions, other Turbine Technology Team members fully informed of progress and status of work, Encourage and foster teamwork within the Power Manufacturing Solutions group and our mill Power leadership teams.
- Maintain relationships with the IP Global Sourcing team and our TG OEM’s. Provide leadership and management within the OEM Alliance to ensure high quality resourcing and work execution within the agreement. Work within the agreement with OEM to provide deliberate improvements where applicable.
The Skills You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5 years’ experience in TG / Power Plant operation or 10 years’ current experience in Turbine Generator operations and maintenance, including auxiliary systems supporting the TGs.
- Core technical knowledge of safety systems, procedures, equipment design and operation to protect assets and personnel. Must have a core knowledge of industrial process safety management.
- 10 years’ experience in pulp and paper industry is preferred, including knowledge of auxiliary drive turbines.
