New product introduction. Process development for manufacturing crystals and optical components. Continuous improvements to existing processes. Train team members.
Duties:
- Prepare rapid prototyping samples for testing.
- Lead weekly team meetings for safety, production commitments, new products, and machine maintenance.
- Daily interactions and weekly meetings with production control.
- Direct engineers on fixture design and process improvements.
- Weekly reporting on overtime use and upcoming need.
- Monthly reports on output, cycle time, yield, inputs, etc….
- Team building and performance evaluations.
- Coaching all team members.
- Capital equipment budget with justification.
Requirements:
- Requirements include 15 to 20 years of hands-on experience in the manufacturing of Plano and spherical optics.
- Experience in glass and crystal manufacturing, including both the fabrication and polishing of many different types of materials such as Fused Silica, NBK-7, CaF2, MgF2, calcite, sapphire, Si, Ge, LBO, BBO, KTP, TGG, plus II-VI and III-V compounds.
- Fabrication knowledge should include lens generating, lens centering, coring, slicing, grinding, and dicing of various glass and optical components.
- Polishing experiences should include blocking, grinding, and polishing of various shapes of optical glasses such as prisms, wedges, flats, and spherical optics.
- Double sided lapping and polishing along with single-sided methods are necessary.
- Multiple techniques of polishing are desired, such as pitch and pad polishing plus experiences with different types of slurries and polishing compounds.
- CNC manufacturing of optical components is a plus.
- Strong math skills and competency in Solid Works.
- Must be able to use optical test equipment for measuring flatness, surface roughness, and parallelism.
- Must be able to read and review blueprints and make parts to tight tolerances.
- Additional requirements are to provide training to junior members of the fabrication and polishing staff.
This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22C.F.R. §120.15 are required. “US Person” includes US citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, and asylees. License exception Technology and software under restriction (TSR) defined in 15 CFR 740.6 may permit persons from Country Group B.
