Job Description
Scope
Hands-on role that regularly plans, implements, maintains, acts, and improves the quality system and quality department procedures, work instructions, programs, and systems that ensure conformance to requirements of all new and existing products. Controls departmental budget; supervision of employees and overall responsibility for quality for the product line.
Function
Reports directly to the ITW Food Machine Division Quality Manager. Responds to the needs of the organization and applying Quality Standards & Methodologies through planning, implementing, maintaining, correcting, and improving quality programs, systems, procedures, and work instructions. Will establish and assure maintenance of quality programs and standards for all products. Responsibilities in recommending improvements, corrective actions to ensure high level performance and on-going cost reduction. Responsible for designing, completing, installing, and supervising inspection and testing plans/procedures for all component parts and finished products. Responsible for all sustaining activities to ensure uptime of the manufacturing processes, conducts internal-process-supplier-out of box audits on a scheduled basis or as required to ensure we maintain a world class quality level throughout the manufacturing plant.
Responsibilities (80% Core Essential Functions)
- Support manufacturing with product test procedures, test equipment, and specific quality requirements for product functionality.
- Support and develop part inspection plans, testing & reliability plans, and reporting for new products and modifications to existing products. Verify that reliability, safety, and quality is unaffected.
- Develop programs to identify, target and analyze product failures in order to reduce warranty costs.
- Provide plans and procedures for product evaluation and field support including field testing.
- Manage and conduct pilot/production audits of new products
- Provide guidance in development and maintenance of quality systems including direct ownership in (ISO9001, UL, NSF, ETL, ASTM, ANSI)and warranty reduction.
- Provides departmental leadership to personnel, providing motivation, growth, and productivity standards.
- Provides guidance to the Quality Assurance organization in the continuous improvement of quality while supporting production operations in maintaining product flow.
- Establishes an effective quality assurance program and communicates policies, procedures, and guidelines. Conducts periodic audits to ensure that procedures are appropriately seated and are being followed.
- Effectively prevents or resolves problems and implements corrective action programs within the plant on as needed basis. Effectiveness of such programs will be measured by the timeliness, product integrity and overall product/project implementation costs.
- Assures that products and parts conform to specification requirements and establishes appropriate records to verify quality and tract results.
- Respond to new product out-sourcing needs, including offshore locations and assure conformance to requirements of existing and new finished product sources.
- Specifically support manufacturing through provisions of receiving, in-process, final inspection and test procedures and equipment as well as vendor quality accountability.
- Interface and coordinate with Marketing, Engineering, Service, Purchasing, and external customers and other functional groups for smooth implementation of quality plans, procedures, and requirements for quality assurance organization by resolving quality issues and sustaining customer satisfaction.
- Will operate within the business constraints such as budgets, schedules, and areas of authority while at the same time reaching out to help improve the operation of business.
- Will support the technical advancement of personnel and practices within the organization.
- Ensure that procedures, drawings, and instructions are in place and being followed and evidence by a regular audit program of the quality system.
- Effectiveness of problem solving or corrective action efforts within the plant; measured by timeliness, product integrity and overall implementation cost.
- Keep appropriate records verifying quality of products produced and shipped. Establishing that products and parts conform to requirements.
- Management of personnel in the organization to achieve motivation, growth, and productivity.
- Operating within the business constraints such as budgets, schedules, and areas of authority while at the same time reaching out to help improve operation of business.
Responsibilities (20% Department-specific Core Essential Functions)
- Partner cross-functionally to provide customer-backed quality solutions, including proactive analysis in understanding customer pain points and driving value-added solutions from a quality perspective.
- Support the division’s efforts to establish, implement and maintain a system for supplier certification and performance measurement; coordinate and perform analysis and assessment of supplier performance, manufacturing processes and facilities to determine adequacy and capability of their systems and processes.
- Provide follow-up and oversight to vendor-related corrective actions, review solutions and provide final approval of proposed resolution.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- Office, Lab, and Manufacturing environments.
- PPE required: Steel toe shoes and eye protection in manufacturing setting.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, or stoop and use hands, arms and walk frequently. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, quality or related field
Experience: 8 years
- Quality Engineering-APQP-PPAP-FMEA’s-MSA-CORE TOOLS-GD&T-FAI’s
- Background in ISO 9001 Systems with experience in development, implementation, maintenance, problem solving, auditing, and improving in a manufacturing environment. Experience within Supplier Quality-Auditing-Problem Solving
Skills / Abilities:
- Hands-On Expertise in Part Inspection(Rec-Process-Final)-GD&T-CTQ-AQL
- Experienced Project Management-Detail oriented.
- Strong Math & GD&T skills.
- Organizational skills-6S-KANBAN-JIT.
- Communication - verbal and written - must be able to deliver presentations.
- Interpersonal skills
- Must be able to resolve conflicts.
- Good listening-problem solving skills
- Systematically gather information, sorts through complex issues, and makes timely decisions.
Preferred Qualifications:
CQA, CQE, Certified Lead Auditor, Project Management, 6 SIGMA Green-Black Belt
