Assistant Professor of Finance

The Assistant Professor of Finance is a tenure-track, full-time, 10-month academic position effective August 1, 2024. The position is responsible for a 12-hour per semester teaching load in finance and related areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A productive program of research and scholarly publication is expected and supported by a reduction in teaching load. Active involvement in service functions is also expected.


Responsibilities

Teaching: Indiana University Northwest is a student-centered campus. Teaching is the primary mission of the campus, supported by research and service. The expected teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester in finance and related areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A course release will be granted to maintain a productive level of scholarly work. Teaching responsibilities may include face-to-face and online formats, evenings, and some Saturdays. Additional opportunities for summer teaching may be available. Teaching expectations include course and syllabus preparation, textbook selection, participation in assessment of student learning, working collaboratively with peers on curriculum improvement, and incorporation of high impact teaching strategies that actively engage students. Faculty are expected to encourage student development and participate in activities that extend beyond the classroom such as mentoring, oversight of student clubs, honor societies, etc.


Research: The School of Business and Economics employs the Teacher-Scholar model, valuing research that is applied, basic, or pedagogic. Faculty are expected to pursue an ongoing stream of scholarly/creative activity, as required for promotion and tenure as well as maintaining academic status for accreditation purposes. Work may include but is not limited to: presenting papers at academic and professional association meetings; publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals or books; pursuing regional and national awards; holding office in a professional organization; participating in panels at regional and national meetings of professional organizations; pursuing grants; serving as part of the editorial review process for academic/professional journals; consulting; contributing to the scholarly growth of one’s peers.


Service: Faculty members are expected to contribute their professional expertise through service to the department, campus, and community at large, in a participatory, developmental, or advisory capacity. Examples include but are not limited to committee work within the School, campus-wide committees and/or faculty governance; voluntary membership in professional and community-based organizations reasonably related to the discipline; lectures, consultations, or working with local and area agencies and organizations; support and participation in student organization activities.


Required Qualifications


  • An earned doctorate in Finance or related field from an accredited institution by August 1, 2024.
  • Experience teaching at the University level.
  • Demonstrated scholarly work such as publications and/or presentations.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
