Overall Summary:

The Operator III is technically advanced at operating specific direct mail equipment. They perform Make Readies, minor adjustments and/or repairs on the equipment. They utilize a high level of proficiency to obtain quality and quantity goals according to customer specifications and standard operating procedures.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

·         Set-up, operate, and maintain department machinery.

·         Interpret job specs and component orientation: verify finished product meets customer specifications. 

·         Complete daily production tracking; update Hourly tracking boards and promptly provide detailed explanations of issues to Leaders and Technical Support Team. 

·         Perform quality pulls to verify job specifications and ensure the overall quality expectations are met.

·         Perform Make Readies/Setups.  

·         Identify root causes that impact productivity and quality goals.

·         Troubleshoot machine issues and make adjustments when necessary.

·         Lead 2 Operator in duties to meet daily standards for quality and productivity. 

·         Perform daily maintenance start-up checklist.

·         Perform file changes.

·         Load and unload forms; maintain adequate supply of materials at the machine.

·         Perform routine maintenance functions to ensure machine efficiency.

·         Partner with the Equipment Technicians to maximize run speeds and set up times.

·         Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) to help design products for the department machinery.

·         Train team members to advance their skills, enhance team flexibility and assist the Team Lead as needed. 

·         Conduct smooth transition between shifts; gather pertinent information to avoid interruption to production.

·         Maintain a clean and safe work area.

·         Perform other duties as applicable or assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

·         Determine proper registration through the use of templates and visual inspection. 

·         Strong oral and written communication skills.

·         Basic computer skills preferred.  

·         Detail-oriented and ability to prioritize tasks.

·         Team player and ability to train others.

·         Highly technically inclined and ability to operate direct mail equipment.

 

Education and Experience:

·         High school diploma or equivalent.

·         High Speed inserting experience required, preferably to include 4 color Read/Write (Condor). 

·         1 year of experience working as the lead operator on the EPIC required.

·         1 year of Roll to fold bindery or inline finishing experience. 

·         1 year of Affix/Inkjet experience.  

·         Lean manufacturing experience and/or quality control training preferred.

·         Previous safety training or participation on a safety team a plus.   

 

Physical Requirements:

·         Ability to work 12-hour shifts, rotating 3 or 4 days per week including weekend rotations.

·         Ability to work overtime when needed.

·         Standard climate-controlled production environment; exposure to loud noise (PPE is provided).

·         Ability to lift, carry and push/pull up to 35 pounds.

·         Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, pivot, crouch, squat, kneel, and stoop for up to 12 hours.

·         Upper extremity motion requirements: fine motor movements, pushing/pulling with arms, grasping and pinching.

·         Lower extremity motion requirements: reaching.
