FUNCTIONS:
Translate District and school documents from English to Spanish and effectively communicate with Spanish speaking families and community members.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred).
- Advanced knowledge of the English and Spanish languages. Other languages a plus.
- Fluent oral, reading, writing, and comprehension skills in English and Spanish.
- Able to communicate clearly in English and Spanish, both written and orally.
- Working knowledge of Trados Studio or willingness to learn how to use this translation software.
- Excellent communication skills and be able to work well with others.
- Demonstrated organizational and planning skills.
- Basic clerical skills and knowledge of office practices and procedures that involve the operation of standard office and technology equipment including, but not limited to computer, copier, fax, and translation equipment.
- Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, and Google tools.
- Advanced skills in typing, formatting, proofreading, and editing.
- Ability to understand and execute written and verbal instructions.
- Able to work under rigorous conditions, meet deadlines, and react effectively and calmly in emergencies.
- Proficient in Social Media including Facebook and Twitter.
- Working knowledge of Spanish keyboard or willingness to learn.
- Must pass District Translation and Technology tests.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must possess the ability to comprehend instructions, read correspondence, and effectively communicate with Spanish speaking stakeholders. Demonstrate the ability to translate English materials into clear and concise written material and orally present information effectively to staff and the general public.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
1. Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written English and Spanish, using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
- Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and other required written materials.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.
- Ability to effectively respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints in Spanish.
- Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a variety of written translations of District and/or school documents and publications from English to Spanish including, but not limited to letters, newsletters, bulletins, flyers, forms, parent-student handbooks, volunteer handbook, agenda items, and other materials; review and proofread a variety of documents.
- Oral interpretation at designated District functions including, but not limited to monthly school board meetings, District events, and parent sessions.
- Communicates effectively, orally and in writing in both English and Spanish.
- Performs administrative, clerical, and/or record-keeping duties.
- Works cooperatively as part of a team with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy.
- Able to honor confidential information.
- Provides information and exercise independent judgment in resolving a variety of issues and refer difficult issues to the administrator as necessary.
- Researches, compiles, and verifies a variety of information; processes and evaluates a variety of documents related to assigned functions.
- Pursues personal development of knowledge and skills required for the efficient performance of the job.
- Consistently exhibits high standards of professional conduct.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications and Development or designee.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and significant fine finger dexterity. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. The employee must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Some driving is required. Some extended hours and multiple demands will be frequently required of the employee.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Employee will experience constant interruptions and changing deadlines. The noise level in this environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors. Usually, normal office working conditions.
