POSITION SUMMARY:
The Compression Specialist provides on-site operational assistance to the operating districts related to performance of equipment and personnel. This position serves as the primary point of contact for the field for their assigned area and is part of a network of support that includes the entire Technical Services Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: may include any or all of the following.
- Primary point of contact between field operations for their assigned area and the rest of the Technical Services group.
- Assist operating district sales and field personnel with troubleshooting of mechanical failure issues. Determine the cause of failure to identify ways to prevent future failures. This may include training of personnel, with engineering related to compressor performance, design, troubleshooting, failure analysis and environmental concerns.
- Evaluate training needs and arrange for training as needed in conjunction with district management. Personally perform training, as needed; otherwise assist in arranging training conducted by others.
- Provide data on mechanical failures to the Technical Services group so trends or widespread problems can be identified early.
- Stay abreast of changing technology and processes so knowledge can be transferred efficiently to field operations.
- Provide support on large jobs not ordinarily in the scope of the operating districts ability.
- Significant travel (up to 75%) may be required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (COMPETENCY STATEMENTS):
- Advanced knowledge of machines and tools, materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of compression units.
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; presents numerical data effectively; able to read and interpret written information.
- Proven ability to provide personal customer service and satisfaction. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
- Proven ability to identify training needs, as well as develop and implement programs utilizing strong presentation and training skills.
- Motivated self-starter capable of working independently and efficiently with little or no supervision.
- Proven ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, respond to management direction; take responsibility for own actions; keep commitments; complete tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan.
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Education & Experience:
- Associate’s Degree from a two-year college or technical school and a minimum of 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- An entry level Compression Specialist should possess the skill set of a “B” level Service Technician.
Computer skills:
- Adequate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Applications.

- Forklift Certification or the ability to obtain one.
