POSITION: Director of Marketing & Communications for the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce is a salaried full-time position with some evenings and weekends required.


SUMMARY: This is a full-time, salary position responsible for all marketing and communication efforts of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, including leading internal and external surveys and assessments, proactive communication on initiatives and telling the story of businesses in Jackson County. The individual in this position serves as a key point of contact for the business community and reports directly to the President of the Jackson County Chamber.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement strategies to take advantage of internal and external opportunities to shape the Chamber’s perception;
  • Promote business and the Chamber’s work in the community by communicating the Chamber’s efforts and successes with members and the public;
  • Develop a strong public relations and marketing strategy to increase awareness of Chamber actions;
  • Create and leverage storytelling opportunities;
  • Develop clear, concise material and information that leads to a unified voice of business by staff and volunteers;
  • Identify partners and collaborate on marketing efforts;
  • Develop strategies, and materials, in conjunction with the Membership Manager, to assist in membership sales;
  • Develops and implements strategies to improve and grow membership through communication and marketing efforts;
  • Manages all aspects of the Chamber’s social media accounts and website;
  • Oversee all marketing services and programs the Chamber offers;
  • Create and implement systems to ensure accurate and timely communication between all staff;
  • Communicate regularly with staff to assure that you understand programs and services available;
  • Attend all Chamber functions, providing staffing support as assigned or needed;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, committees, volunteers, civic groups and the general public;
  • Effectively organize your time, coordinate multiple activities and maintain excellent follow-through;
  • Effectively present information, both verbally and written, and respond to questions from clients and customers;
  • Coordinate scheduling of events (working with the Membership Manager and the Events and Community Affairs Director);
  • With the Events and Community Affairs Director, create and distribute run-of-show and talking points for various events;
  • Manage marketing plan within budget;
  • Assisting with general office duties, including clerical duties, answering the phone, assisting walk-ins and coordinating out of office time;
  • Other duties as appropriate.



EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge: Computer proficiency in standard Microsoft and marketing programs, examples include Illustrator, Canva, Constant Contact, Word Press, Survey Monkey, etc. Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally. Knowledge of community. Possess general knowledge of business practices, operations and needs. Good telephone technique.
  • Previous experience: 2-4 years of marketing and/or communications experience.


REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or conceptual form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


ACCOUNTABILITY: This position reports directly to the Chamber President.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work hours are generally reasonable, but there are routinely early morning meetings, evening meetings and periods when weekend work is required.
