General Information
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the College of Health and Behavioral Students (CHBS) at James Madison University (JMU) seeks a Director of Clinical Education (DCE) in a renewable-term appointment at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor. The DCE will have the primary responsibility and oversight for the clinical training component of our CAA accredited graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and Audiology. The DCE will work collaboratively with faculty in the department as well as faculty across CHBS and the University to support our mission to advance the state of knowledge through basic and applied research, innovative professional and pre-professional education, and enhanced clinical practices.
The qualified candidate will join a thriving and collegial academic unit with 17 full-time faculty and six part-time faculty with additional adjunct and clinical educators as needed. The department serves an average of 350 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across multiple degree-granting academic programs (https://csd.jmu.edu/index.html). The department has state-of-the-art audiology and speech-language pathology clinics with rich community outreach. We have a shared vision to be recognized for bridging science and clinical practice. Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in advancing the shared vision for clinical education in coordination with the department head, program directors, as well as academic and clinical faculty and staff.
- Work with a team of clinical educators and staff to maximize quality learning experiences for Au.D. and M.S. Speech Language Pathology students during their clinical training.
- Oversee and advance client care activities and clinic operations in accordance with best practices in service delivery, and in compliance with local and federal regulations. This includes fiscal management.
- Work across programs to increase inclusivity and accessibility within the curriculum and clinical populations served.
- Provide oversight of the clinical externships across programs.

- Participate in the department’s ongoing quality assessment efforts, particularly as they relate to accreditation requirements.
- Teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level in areas of expertise.
- Participate in service to the university, department, and program, and in committee work as appropriate.
- Demonstrate commitment toward building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment for all members of the learning community.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or Communication Sciences & Disorders.
- ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP/CCC-A), eligibility for Virginia licensure in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.
- Experience as a clinical educator/preceptor of graduate students in communication sciences and disorders.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with managing clinical professionals and support staff.
- Knowledge of operation of a clinic setting providing services in audiology and speech-language pathology.
- Experience with fiscal management and billing practices.
