Wakuwaku is a relaxed and warm Japanese izakaya restaurant -- the perfect escape from the city bustle located in Japan Village in Sunset Park, Brooklyn's Industry City. Our menu highlights classic Japanese comfort foods and a wide array of fun drinks. The adjacent cocktail bar is Oldies, an intimate yet casual, old-school Japanese influenced cocktail bar highlighting bright cocktails using freshley-squeezed fruits, highballs with a twist, seasonal drinks and more!
We are currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic individual to join the team as a Yakitori chef! This individual must be a driven hospitality leader to maintain highest standards of hospitality at Wakuwaku & Oldies.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Ready and willing to assist fellow team members in meeting guest needs
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation throughout the shift
- Always adheres to company food handling, safety and sanitation procedures
- Performs all duties and responsibilities according to the Company's written Employment Guidelines
- Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all food quality and guest service issues
- Handles and stores product properly
- Seeks out and uses service-related guest feedback and takes appropriate action to continually improve the level of service, drive overall guest satisfaction, increase return visits and reduce guest complaints.
- Develops and implements plans to continually improve guest satisfaction in the areas of server attentiveness and table cleanliness.
- Ensures safety, sanitation and security guidelines are followed at all times and immediately resolves any items identified in inspections.
- Reinforces suggestive selling behaviors by ensuring that the guest is invited to enjoy yakitori, side orders, beverages and desserts as part of the dining experience.
- Is responsible for maintaining the Japan Village standards of products, services and quality.
- Creates an atmosphere that insures guests to feel welcome and wish to return
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
- Connection with vendors and understanding how to order fish and supplies
- MUST have excellent communication, influencing and selling skills
- MUST be friendly, outgoing and confident with an ability to easily build rapport when meeting new people
- Knowledge of Japanese etiquette and manners a PLUS.
- Ability to handle cash with accuracy and efficiency
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines as assigned with minimal supervision
- Can assess customer needs and enjoy helping people
- Enjoy being part of a team environment
- Merchandising knowledge of visual standards and techniques preferred
- Knowledge of Health Laws and Regulations
- Appreciation of Japan Village unique culture, entrepreneurial attitude, heritage and passion for its products

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
