The mill mechanic operates wire drawing mills to produce drawn wire to internal and external customers. The position requires a complete knowledge of the inter-workings of the mills, spoolers and/or any production equipment and how to keep them running/operational.
Responsibilities
Starts up, operates and performs essential PM duties on mills throughout the department on a daily basis.
Checks product to ensure product is according to specifications.
Manages daily production inventory. This may include:
Working with team members to routinely review production needs as listed on the computerized production system, and helps to ensure the team’s production levels meet scheduled demand.
Alerting shift supervisor to any hindrances in meeting the production schedule.
Managing product inventory to increase inventory flow (turns).
Performs machine maintenance/and alert supervisor or maintenance mechanic as needed to keep the equipment running/operational.
Participates in process improvement initiatives. May work as a team with other Wire Mill Department employees on process improvement projects.
Runs, prints (if necessary), and understands the open order report in order to determine which wire orders need to be produced and establish the priority for daily production.
Qualifications
Education / Studies
Which degree is required?
Minimum of a high school degree or the equivalent.
Professional Experience
Which professional experience is desirable (in years and in which divisions / positions)?
Must be able to safely and simultaneously manage and maintain multiple machines.
Must possess the ability to work effectively with others, in an independent production team environment.
Good oral communication skills.
Additional Preferred Education/Skills
Is there special knowledge / skills which are necessary for this position? E.g. law classes
Previous experience working in a manufacturing facility.
Previous experience using standard micrometers, or other similar measuring equipment.
Previous experience in an ISO-certified production environment.
Previous experience working with a computerized production scheduling system.
Previous experience as an operator/mechanic on production equipment.
Performance Expectations
In order to maximize production (85%), most essential duties should be performed while the mills are running (example: Gathering essential items like wire, spools, make boxes for spoolers etc… while the mills are running in order to avoid over stock outs of consumables that lead to shutting down the mills during the shift).
Keeps all items necessary for maintenance/production available and accessible in order to minimize down time on the machine.
Performs all Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasks in order to keep machines operable. Communicates all issues with supervisor if/when they impede production.
Follows all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ISO, and other company policies and procedures.
Maintains working environment in a neat, orderly fashion.
Participates in continues improvement efforts, both departmental and plant wide.
Quality - monitors equipment to ensure they are producing product to spec/print that meets or exceeds customer’s expectations.
Flexibility: Based on customer demand or circumstances, capable and willing to change priorities within the area/plant without direct supervision.
Teamwork: Must possess the ability to work effectively with others in an independent production team environment.
Identify, recite and explain the One JBT Vision.

Utilize RCI tools (6S, 8 Wastes etc.) and RCI House to incorporate into daily work and processes.
Identify areas for improvement and makes changes (small or large).
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Ability to routinely lift up to 90 pounds, and stand or walk for a minimum of 80% of the work day.
Performs physical labor for the majority of their daily shift, with long periods of walking or standing essential to the job.
Required to operate manufacturing machines and related equipment.
Utilization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory while working in the manufacturing area, including: hearing protection, OSHA standard safety shoes, and safety glasses. The noise level varies between a high to moderate level. As part of the Company’s hearing conservation program, this position will be required to undergo a standard hearing test upon hire, and annually thereafter.
