What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Personal Trainers position at JCC MetroWest?
JCC MetroWest in West Orange, New Jersey is seeking part-time and full-time Certified Personal Trainers. Reporting to the Personal Training Manager, Certified Personal Trainers deliver an exciting and personalized experience to our members. Certified Personal Trainers assess their clients’ bodily strengths and weaknesses and create customized workout plans. They provide physical and mental guidance and monitor clients’ progress on a regular basis.
The primary duties of a Certified Personal Trainer include, but are not limited to:
Provide personal training to members:
- Take the initiative in enrolling current and potential members into our training program.
- Assist clients in setting specific and attainable fitness goals.
- Deliver one-on-one and Small Group Training. Design programs based on clients’ capabilities, preferences, limitations, and goals.
- Observe clients and inform them of corrective measures necessary for skill and physical improvement.
Serve as Fitness Attendant, as scheduled:
- Serve as a first responder in emergency situations and follow emergency protocols set by the JCC. Respond to safety codes and, if needed, administer CPR/AED services to a member.
- Provide customer service through interacting with members, assisting with spotting, educating members on how to use the equipment and answering questions.
- Ensure the fitness areas (fitness floor, group exercise studios, personal training studios, outdoor studio) remain clean and organized by alerting the JCC housekeeping team if areas need cleaning, organizing the dumbbells, free weights, bars and accessories, and disinfecting/cleaning fitness equipment. Restock equipment cleaning supplies.
Provide wellness services to members:
· Undergo JCC training on and deliver wellness programs including body composition analyses, new member health coaching programs, and chronic disease management programs.
Administrative:
· Perform opening/closing procedures for fitness center.
· Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled.
· Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
All Trainers are required to be licensed and/or certified by one or more of the following organizations:

· American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
· American Council of Exercise (ACE)
· International Fitness Professional Association (IFPA)
· International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA)
· National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
· National Council of Strength and Fitness (NCSF)
· National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association (NESTA)
· National Exercise Trainers Association (NETA)
· National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT)
· National Personal Training Institute (NPTI)
· National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
· Personal Trainer Academy Global (PTA Global)
· National Council for Certified Personal Trainers (NCCPT)
· National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA)
· World Instructor Training School (W. I.T.S)
Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science or equivalent field is preferred
All Certified Personal Trainers are also required to have an active CPR/AED certification through the American Red Cross or similar organization.
Health Coaching and Wellness Certifications preferred but not essential.
