CDL TRAINING INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
OVERALL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
This CDL Training Instructor will be responsible for teaching Commercial Driver’s License theory and skills (classroom and behind-the-wheel) to students enrolled in JENN KANS, INC. certificate program.
Duties and Responsibilities
▪ Demonstrating and following the JENN KANS, INC. theory and skills curriculum subject matter for the students.
▪ Providing instruction on the parts and functions of a vehicle, and on-road regulations.
▪ Teaching practical skills related to all aspects of safe driving
▪ Helping students develop confidence in their driving skills
▪ Gaining control of the vehicle during emergency situations
▪ Documenting and reporting on students' progress
▪ Informing students when they are ready to take the driver's test and accompanying them to
the testing facility
▪ Workplace attendance is essential for job function
▪ Required to be collegial, respectful, and professional with faculty, staff, and students always
▪ Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
▪ Applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to FMCSA and DOT.
▪ National and Regional Accreditation standards related to CDL Driver Training.
▪ Use the established curriculum to prepare and develop the knowledge and skills of
drivers seeking training and/or certification.
▪ Actively recruit CDL students to attend JENN KANS, INC. Programme.
▪ Train student drivers functional skills and advanced operating procedures
▪ Conduct behind-the-wheel training and evaluate student progression on a consistent
basis. Ensure that each driver masters the functions of all driving functions, including
lane control, shifting, axle weights, etc.
▪ Educate drivers on the importance of meeting productivity standards
▪ Teach drivers to promptly identify and diagnose the condition(s) of critical vehicle
components when conducting pre-trip, en-route and post-trip vehicle inspections
▪ Ensure trainees understand how to use all onboard vehicle communication and routing
devices.
▪ Teach map reading classes.
Driving Instructor Requirements
▪ High school diploma or equivalent
▪ Valid Maryland CDL A and Class C driving licenses
▪ Two (2) years of professional truck driving experience
▪ Ability to work evenings and on weekends, as required
▪ Clear driving and criminal record
▪ Excellent verbal and written communication
▪ Basic computer skills and audio-visual equipment experience
▪ Knowledge of the principles and practices of safe truck driving and all the laws and
