Job Details
PhD, MD or equivalent terminal degree required.
Experience
- At least 10 years of relevant research experience, and demonstrated ability to develop research programs, and lead, manage, and mentor mid- and early-career research staff.
- A track record of success in publishing articles in major peer-reviewed journals, including serving as a major author on a significant number of recent (past three years) publications.
- A track record of success in obtaining external funding from public and/or private sources, including demonstrated capabilities of securing research-related funding in the past three years.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical skills and background in research method and design.
- Solid team, project, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and with others, particularly in a remote-based work environment.
- Interpersonal skills to work with all levels of administrative and clinical staff, as well as external stakeholders.
- Capacity to handle competing priorities, and make timely, sound decisions under pressure.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing and operationalizing a strategy for advancing Research Organization’s position as a leader in the generation and use of data and evidence to advance health equity and the needs of safety-net populations nationwide.
- Creates a portfolio development approach that is systematic, strategic, and forward thinking in its ability to anticipate future trends and funding priorities across clients.
- Deepen and cultivate relationships with key government, philanthropy, multilateral, and other actors in the health arena.
- Builds a sustainable research portfolio both as Principal Investigator and by mentoring, developing, and recruiting other principal, mid-level, and junior investigators, as appropriate, and through collaboration with staff and external researchers.
- Supervises and supports entire research team at Research Organization comprised of Senior/Research Scientists, Senior/Research and Evaluation Associates, Research Program Managers, and Research Coordinators.
- Forges new external collaborations with a range of partners that will contribute to the growth and impact of Research Organization’s research on a national level.
- Pursues extramural grant/contract funding on strategic topics by writing research proposals and developing corresponding budgets and support materials consistent with the scientific objectives of the funding organization.
- Leads the development of a nationally recognized research program, via a) the forging of collaborations with researchers and research institutions nationwide and, b) the dissemination of results through a variety of venues including peer-reviewed publications, workshops, and presentations at scientific meetings.
- Leads the establishment and growth of research programs by developing, training, and mentoring other investigators in the design, conduct, dissemination, and implementation of research projects.
- Develops and contributes to the achievement of established goals and objectives of the Institute, and adheres to the Institute’s policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards.
- Disseminates results through a variety of venues including peer reviewed publications, white papers, workshops, and presentations at national scientific, policy, and practice meetings.
- Performs oversight of studies in the role of Principal Investigator or Sub-Investigator.
- Guides and mentors junior faculty investigators (and clinical collaborators) on research design.
- Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the Institute in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
