Joest www.joest-us.comis a global leader in the design and manufacture of vibratory, thermal processing and air separation equipment for the scrap, recycling, mining, aggregate, steel, foundry, plastics, dry chemical and food industries in the US, Canada, and Mexico. We recently purchased and merged with Goessling USA (www.goesllingusa.com) which designs and manufactures hinge belt and magnetic conveyors, and parts processing centrifuges for the stamping, fastener and forging customers. Joest US is also responsible for selling and supporting Dieterle brand lift tippers. We are a well-funded, privately held company founded in Germany in 1919 that began designing and manufacturing equipment in the Chicago Area in 2006. To support this growth, we just completed a major expansion of our Tennessee facility to double our production and warehouse space.
This position is located at our headquarters in Glen Ellyn, IL, which is conveniently located near the intersection of IL-38 (Roosevelt Rd) and I-355. While there is some flexibility in hours, this position is primarily filled in the office when not traveling for work. Candidates must eventually live within reasonable commuting distance of the Glen Ellyn facility. We offer excellent benefits including choice of healthcare plans and matching 401K.
Job Description:
This is a new position necessitated by the continued growth of the company and the associated reorganization necessary to efficiently and effectively continue growing into the future. One of the key changes is for the General Manager to delegate the overall sales responsibility to an energetic, self-starting team player who will also become a key member of the senior leadership group. The position requires a combination of technical aptitude, sales capability, process orientation and leadership skills. The right person must have a proven track record of selling, quoting and supporting customer’s needs for large, mechanical equipment, preferably material handling equipment sold into one or more of the company’s key markets listed above. The successful candidate will have opportunities for additional cross-functional responsibilities as the company continues to grow.
REPONSIBILITIES
- Create strategic plan, goals and actions to achieve profitable sales objectives.
- Mentor and lead sales team members to optimize their performance.
- Manage short- and long-term sales forecasts for internal and external analysis.
- Provide strategic and tactical input to GM and other senior management team members.
- Train sales team in Strategic Selling skills and process.
- Optimize sales processes.
- Qualify potential sales representatives/companies.
- Hire new sales team members as necessary.
- Conduct performance reviews and goal setting for sales team members.
- Manage and update CRM system, including input for any new software.
- Provide technical and commercial input in support of R&D efforts, including ROI estimations.
- Develop product launch plans including training and marketing materials for internal and channel team members.
- Marketing responsibilities may also become a part of this position once the person as established a solid sales leadership role.
QUALIRFICATIONS
General
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field.
- MBA or significant college coursework in finance, strategic planning and/or management is highly desired.
- 20 years’ experience working for large, capital equipment manufacturing company(s).
- Previous P&L responsibilities highly desirable.
- Vibratory equipment and/or metal conveyor experience a huge plus.
- High ethical standards, personal integrity, positive attitude, and honesty.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Results driven.
- Target oriented. Ability to create and meet deadlines and sales goals.
- Good listening skills.
- Experience working with international companies a plus.
- Willing to travel as necessary, including occasional international travel.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel.
Technical
- Strong technical aptitude required.
- Understanding of large machine design and manufacturing operations required.
- Material handling equipment and process knowledge a big plus.
- Ability to understand customer’s needs, translate them for internal team’s evaluation and then communicating a solution back to the customer in technical terms.
- Understanding of stage gate processes for developing and launching new products a plus.
Sales
- Minimum of 10 years’ direct, hands on experience selling large mechanical equipment
- Proven sales leadership
- Must have a proven successful track record of selling at the engineering and C-levels – NOT just at the maintenance and purchasing levels.
- Comfortable and flexible in speaking different “selling languages” based on customer’s position and knowledge.
- Direct experience managing multiple long cycle time selling processes.
- Understands and employs solution selling techniques.
- Experience documenting sales progress.
- Background developing and supporting sales rep networks.
- Equally comfortable working and communicating with higher-level decision makers and lower-level operators.
- Hands on marketing experience a plus.
- Proficiency using and CRM system required. Implementation of new CRM systems a plus.
- Valued team player willing to ask questions and be open to learning from answers.
- Experience launching new products a plus.
- Ability to work independently and write one’s own quotations.
- Provide additional support for trade shows booths.
Leadership
- 3 years supervising sales team members.
- Proven cross-functional communicator and coordinator, both internally and externally.
- Understands the difference between leadership and management.
- Good training skills.
- Teacher not lecturer.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Team-Oriented player that understands what it takes to coordinate many different people and personalities to be effective and efficient.
