To support our strategic expansion, JSI is seeking a GIS Systems Specialist who will be responsible for supporting the Fiber Network Design & Implementation division as we implement new processes and GIS technology as part of our strategic plan to grow and scale.
Responsibilities:
We are looking for multi-skilled candidates with a quantitative background in GIS systems, systems administration, and engineering. The GIS Systems Specialist will become an expert in our GIS-based software application, work along-side our engineering team and be responsible for configuring the application to meet our specific needs and our continuous improvement goals.
The ideal candidate will have expertise and interest in systems administration, database management and configuration, importing GIS layers, exporting, and customizing data to include some programming. This position will also administer and manage a digital library of client project artifacts to include geographic maps in various file types, among other duties.
- Become an expert in our GIS-based software
- Work with the vendor and engineering team to define configuration requirements and approach
- Document business and system requirements to align teams on our approach.
- Configure the GIS application to meeting the needs of our business and individual office requirements and customers
- Make recommendations to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of how the application is used
- Discovering patterns and trends through spatial mapping of data.
- Identifying and consolidating data sources and importing into the GIS system for use by the engineering team.
- Creating "shapefiles" to merge topographical data with external data by layering external data over a topographical map.
- Leverage the GIS application to build tools and data files for use by the engineering team.
- Performing data munging and cleaning to convert data into its desired form.
- Produce reports on geographic data utilizing data visualizations.
- Managing a digital library of geographic maps in various file types.
Requirements:
- Degree in computer science, engineering or related field.
- Proficiency with database programming languages such as SQL, R or Python.
- Proficiency with front end design languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript and various mapping languages.
- Experience with mapping tools such as QGIS, Esri, IQGeo or other
- Experience with GPS measuring tools.
- Outstanding quantitative skill set.

- Good interpersonal skills.
- This position requires US Citizenship or a Permanent Resident status.
