Our government rests on the foundation of citizens choosing the representatives who govern us. Consequently, the Johnson County Election Office manages voter registration, precinct boundaries, candidate filings, and campaign reports, and as mandated by the laws of Kansas, administers all federal, state and local elections for over 370,000 registered voters and for more than 2,300 elected positions in Johnson County.

The Election Training Specialist will assess, plan, implement and evaluate internal and external training plans for election workers and full-time and temporary staff.

Responsibilities include:

• Election worker training: Serve as the primary trainer for all election worker training classes not taught by members of the leadership team; collaborate with full-time staff to create election worker training slideshows and other training materials; create online training modules with guidance on content from other full-time staff; oversees a team of temporary staff to facilitate the Practice Makes Perfect hands-on training program.
• Staff training: Assists in the identification of training needs of full-time and temporary staff; creates course materials to include handouts and slideshows to teach learning objectives set by office leadership; may present course materials on various subjects to include voter registration activities, office policies and procedures and other internal needs to be determined.
• Outreach activities: Serves as a backup to other staff when speaking or presenting at public outreach events; teaches and explains the Election Office's vision and mission with the public to better connect the office to the people that it serves.
• Election worker management: Supports and backs up the work of recruiting and retaining a quality pool of election workers; assists with keeping contact information updated; assists with processing new election worker applications to verify requirements and approve or decline the applicant as appropriate.

Bachelor’s degree in the following filed(s) of study is required: Organizational Development, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Human Resources, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Instructional Design and Technology, Business Education or relevant field and two (2) years of relevant experience is required.

Knowledge of election administration and familiarity with and able to use Microsoft Office Suite, Articulate Digital Training Platform, Adobe Systems (Photoshop, RoboHelp, Creative Cloud, Actionscript, AfterEffects, Captivate, Dreamweaver); Micorosoft Visio, Snagit; Camtasia; Rise; Learning Management Systems; Moodle; Syberworks; Cisco Systems; HTML; JavaScript or similar programs is preferred.

Experience may be substituted for education. Education may be substituted for experience.
