Vatn Systems is looking for a Machinist
Vatn Systems is an autonomous underwater vehicle startup focused on developing cutting-edge technology to support underwater exploration, research, and defense applications. Our team is passionate about creating innovative solutions that push the boundaries of what is possible underwater. We are based in Portsmouth, RI with a waterfront workshop and office. This role requires 5 days a week in our workshop.
Job Description:
As a Machinist at Vatn Systems, you will play a crucial role in the development and production of components, as well as the overall assembly, for our autonomous underwater vehicles. You will work closely with our engineering team to fabricate precision parts that are essential to the functionality and reliability of our AUVs. This is a position heavily focused on research and development and requires attention to detail, precision machining skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Tasks
Set up,operate, and maintain conventional and CNC machining equipment, including mills, lathes, grinders, and other equipment frequently found in machine shops.
Weld parts in aluminum as needed
Interpret engineering drawings and blueprints (GD&T notation) to manufacture components to exact specifications.
Monitor and maintain the quality and accuracy of machined parts through inspection and quality control procedures.
Collaborate with engineers and designers to provide input on the manufacturability of components.
Assist with the assembly of our vehicles
Troubleshoot and adjust machines as needed to ensure optimal performance.
Select the appropriate materials and tooling for each project.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Machinist with a strong background in precision machining.
Proficiency in operating and setting up both conventional and CNC machine tools.
Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
Knowledge of machining techniques and materials, including stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium.
Strong Problem-solving Skills
D Detail Oriented
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and meet project deadlines.
Familiarity with CAD/CAM software
