Area Sales Manager
An Area Sales Manager has primary responsibility within a large geographic area for achieving profitable sales and sustained growth goals and objectives. The area sales manager will be responsible for achieving results by effectively leading, motivating and inspiring high performance of their regional manager team and the independent sales channel. This includes values based leadership with focus on our customers and commitment to our strategies.
The area sales manager has direct responsibility for leading resources planning and execution (including organizational capability/succession planning and channel capacity planning), territory planning and sales forecasting. This position also ensures that regional sales management receives ongoing leadership development, coaching, training, recognition and communications. The manager is also accountable for ensuring adherence to business policies and for managing the division sales expense budget.
The area sales manager participates on business and project teams as assigned, and contributes to developing and implementing new product and service introductions, sales compensation plans and sales support strategies. This will include leading and participating on cross functional teams including marketing, market technology, e-business, finance, human resources, to build effective end- to- end processes. The area manager is responsible for meeting business unit growth and profitability targets.

Incumbents of this role are required to be on call and/or available after hours, to provide their own mobile device, and to distribute their mobile phone number accordingly. Alternatively, individuals may distribute their office phone number if their office phone is set to forward calls to their personal device when they are not physically present.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivering profitable and sustained sales results
- Effective leadership and development of the regional sales management team.
- Effective utilization of all available support functions and resources to support business financial and operational objectives and deliver end-to-end processes.
- Develop and maintain industry and technical knowledge.
- Manage the sales force and sales area strategic planning processes using financial and market data.
- Develop realistic plans and execute a multi-year growth plan to meet financial and operational targets.
- Demonstrate strong people leaderships competencies including developing leaders, promoting teamwork and open communication, effective problem solving and conflict management.
- Adhere to corporate business policies and practices.
- Manage territory sales expense budget.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Bachelors degree, in business or a related field, is required.
- Four years in a management role with demonstrated successful leadership. Sales Management is preferred. Experience managing multi-state or large geographic territory with remote direct reports preferred.
- Must have experience and demonstrated success in selection and development of talent.
- Must have demonstrated ability to strategically manage in a performance and results based culture.
- Five plus years’ experience in consultative, program oriented sales environment as a sales representative. Consultative and Educational Sales preferred. Professional, independent experience in sales support such as marketing, consulting or appropriate program based experience may be considered as substitute for the sales representative experience.
- Must have excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Must have strong organizational skills.
- Must be proficient in technology MS Office, Outlook/Calendar, Internet.
- Must have experience with management reports/sales tracking and experience using market and financial data to understand trends and drive results.
- Position must reside in headquarters office; approximately 40% travel in area.
