Theatre Technical Advisor (Part-Time)
Reports To: Michele Bowren Job Status: as needed, hourly
Salary Information: $35 per hour
Description: Seeking a part-time Technical Advisor to work with the Theatre Director in the
teaching and implementation of Technical Theatre. The position would involve overseeing the
Student Design for all productions as well as training JSerra’ s Tech Olympics team for Festivals
and Competitions.
Responsibilities
- Tool safety training for all Advanced Theatre Students
- Guide student design teams and help them to formulate the best practices for
- Help students create a shopping list to implement design
- Help to teach students best practices and skills within all areas of technical theatre
- Oversee Set Building days
- Help to keep storage unit organized
- Oversee keeping tools and supplies updated and in stock. Send list to Theatre Director for
- Oversee load in and load out of sets pieces to the theater and storage units for all 4
- Be present for tech rehearsals for all 4 productions during the school year
- Train our Tech Olympics team
- Attend Theatre Festival Competitions with our Tech Team and the Theatre Director
- Please note: The hours vary from month to month. The most hours will be in the month
around the Spring Musical.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Technical Theatre Background
- Expert in tool safety
- Knowledge of set design and best practices for building and designing sets
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Works well within a team
- Works well with students
Education & Experience
- Experienced Carpenter
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in Technical Theatre
- College Graduate preferred, but not necessary if candidate has the relevant experience
