Seasonal Grounds Workers

Multiple Positions, Various FTE

Estimated start and end: March through October.

Salary: $15.00 per hour, non-exempt, not eligible for benefits.

Job Responsibilities:

• Work cutting, edging, trimming, planting, and maintaining trees, shrubs, plants, flowers, grass lawns, playgrounds, athletic fields, planting beds, etc.
• Review all incoming work orders from supervisor and perform job needs.
• Make determination of tools and equipment needed.
• Review and complete all maintenance and repair issues with assigned equipment and bring to supervisor’s attention if needed.
• Perform duties within the grounds field as assigned by the supervisor within the skills, training, and experience one brings to the job.
• Perform and complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations.
• Ability to drive a District vehicle (non-bus) towing a trailer including grounds equipment.
• Ability to use the work email, operate a phone, fax, radio, copier, and camera.
• Ability to work alone, as well as in a team environment.
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to identified mechanical or safety issues.
• Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with staff.
• Ability to follow directions.
• Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with people with a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
• Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent;
• Must be 18 years or older and the ability to acquire a valid driver's license at the time of hire; AND,
• Clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

• General Knowledge and/or experience in grounds keeping, landscaping, tree removal methods.
• Experience and working knowledge of hand tools and small gas and electrical powered grounds equipment.
• Experience in operating and maintaining grounds equipment such large riding mowers, self-propelled mowers, commercial grade weed eaters and back pack leaf blowers.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift, and carry items up to 40 pounds.
• This is a Heavy Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Heavy Duty involves exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds continuously to move objects.
