Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Campus School is looking for a Learning & Innovation Coach to support the High School. This is a 1-year Defined Term for the 23-24 SY. Job Summary In collaboration with Leadership, provides training and coaching to faculty/staff with a primary focus upon improving curricular and instructional practices to promote student learning and program effectiveness. Under the direction of school Leadership, maintains and develops cutting-edge teaching skills, the ability to differentiate for various learners, and the ability to foster E Ola! Learner Outcomes and values in their daily practice. Promotes and builds a culture of excellence, positive relationships, and focuses upon improving curricular and instructional practice in assigned school and/or teams by conducting informal/guided observations to provide feedback for professional growth. Essential Responsibilities Coaching and Training Regularly demonstrates/conducts model lessons with students and shares expertise with teachers to serve as a faculty-based professional development coach and/or trainer. Train and coach teachers, Educational Assistants, and educational leaders/staff. In collaboration with school leadership, responsible for the improvement of instruction through analysis of instructional teaching methods, identification and management of professional development opportunities at school-wide, divisional level. Supports the instructional development of all teachers in understanding HCBE, E Ola!, standards-based curriculum and varied assessments and data analysis focusing on the strategic how of teaching and sharing multiple instructional strategies/processes. Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success. Leadership and Professional Learning Design Create and lead professional learning communities to facilitate teachers working together to improve their teaching practices. Participate with school level leadership in understanding, analyzing, and interpreting student data, as well as using those findings to improve instructional efficacy in support of World Class, Hawaiian Culture-Based Education. Lead action-research projects or engage in additional study and research projects to grow professionally and enhance their professional contributions to Kamehameha Schools and the school level. Position Requirements Minimum Qualifications - an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the qualifications listed. Master’s Degree from a nationally accredited college or university in Curriculum and Instruction, or related field. Minimum 3 years of related work experience in education settings, developing curriculum, mentoring and/or coaching teachers (observations, conferencing, data and feedback, and documentation). Knowledge of basic principles, theories and practices of education, including curriculum, assessment, program planning and development. Teaching experience (specific to the school/content). Knowledge of education standards and instructional methods that are age appropriate for the school/content. Experience as a designer/ developer of standards-based, curriculum. Established credibility as an instructional leader and change agent. Knowledgeable and experienced in applying adult learning theory, delivery of professional development and coaching strategies. Ability to differentiate and personalize coaching to meet varying needs of faculty. Demonstrated ability to build relationships, make connections and collaborate. Networked learner connecting contemporary thought leaders and practitioners to the work of innovation in the school. Excellent organization and time management skills to manage competing priorities. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with others; communicate clearly, both orally and in writing. Ability to write technical and professional reports, analyze program data, facilitate and lead presentations related to the curriculum, instruction and assessment of the school program. Excellent organization and time management skills to manage competing priorities. Excellent working knowledge of technology and proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, word processing, data management, and presentation applications (i.e. Power Point). Preferred Qualifications Experience mentoring or coaching teachers (observations, conferencing, data and feedback, and documentation). A skilled learning facilitator and presenter adept at connecting with and activating audience participants. Experience designing curriculum focused on indigenous cultures (HCBE preferred). Physical Requirements Frequently move around the classroom, sits, perform desk-based computer tasks, utilize technology equipment, and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk and hear. Frequently stand and/or walk about the work area, write by hand, lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that may weigh up to 20 pounds. Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, sit on the ground, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully. Working Conditions Work is frequently conducted in a classroom environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard learning environments and workplaces. Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours may be required to meet goals and objectives.
