What are the responsibilities and job description for the PASTRY CHEF position at Kansas Star?
Position Description:
Supervise the bakery staff to ensure completion of work assignments in accordance with company, health, and safety regulations.
Personally and alongside bakers, prepare a variety of desserts, pastries, and other baked goods.- Understand and utilize various financial data, such as production and labor cost percentages, to improve cost efficiency.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to company and departmental policies and procedures, as well as safety and health regulations.
- Plan and establish production schedules for baked items and maintain adequate stock levels; ensure proper storage and rotation of stock to minimize waste.
- May be personally responsible for, or have significant input into personnel-related matters including but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, evaluating, promoting, counseling, and discharging.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of 3-5 years technical training and/or experience in pastry food preparation.
- Supervisory experience in a large-volume food establishment including banquets, buffets, specialty restaurants, and coffee shops preferred.
- Must have extensive knowledge of baking recipes, products, decorating methods, and presentation styles.
- Must be knowledgeable of, and consistently apply health, safety, and sanitation policies and procedures.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and maneuver 25 pounds.
- Other physical requirements include but are not necessarily limited to reaching, grasping, and pounding, stretching, and kneading.
- Must have excellent communication skills.
- Must be able to obtain/maintain any necessary licenses and/or certifications.
