POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Day Camp Director
LOCATION/DEPT: Oakbrook Terrace Corps
REPORTS TO: Youth Development Director
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: TFT
OUTCOMES
Work under the direction of the Youth Development Director to ensure that the Day Camp is in keeping with the overall plans, goals, and directions of the Corps.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and execute the day camp program for the entire weekly sessions. This will include, but not be limited to planning the theme for camp and working with the unit leaders in planning crafts, literacy, musical, Bible, recreation, and other classes, overseeing/supervising all children and staff.
- Plan and execute the weekly sessions specifically in the areas of field trips and busing, program ideas for units.
- Oversee Before and After Care programming and scheduling.
- Take supply inventory.
- Understand and uphold that Day Camp overall will have a Christian emphasis.
- Prepare Parent Handbook.
- Prepare flyers each week to communicate with parents.
- Coordinate T-shirt design, pricing, sizing, and ordering.
- Coordinate opening and closing times for each day.
- Carry out the orientation of staff members prior to the first day of camp, conduct daily staff meetings and debriefing.
- Supervise all Day Camp staff and execute disciplinary action, if necessary, in association with the Youth Development Director and the Corps Officer.
- Responsible for discipline action plan for day campers, if necessary, in association with the Youth Development Director and the Corps Officer.
- Keep an active file on all staff and participants.
- Read, sign, and abide by the Safe-From-Harm Policy.
- Other duties as assigned.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Will be responsible to supervise the Day Camp staff hired for the summer and assist as needed in supervising the volunteer staff.
Under the direct supervision of the Youth Development Director. In the absence of the Youth Development Director to be under the supervision of the Corps Officer.
This individual relates to, and interacts with, a wide range of contacts both within and outside The Salvation Army. In these contacts, they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
- Must have completed at least 2 years of college or at least 2 years of experience in day camping, preferably in a supervisory capacity.
- Must be 21 years of age.
COMPETENCIES

- Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
- Requires valid driver’s license and pass the MVR check.

POSITION LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will keep the Youth Development Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.
- Perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary for some periods of time; use hands and fingers; communicate; move; occasionally required to position self to stoop, kneel, or crouch; frequently required to reach with and use arms and hands, as required in using standard office equipment and PC.
- The work environment for this position includes indoor and outdoor environments with a low to high noise level.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, and ability to focus.
