What are the responsibilities and job description for the LRO Science Mission Planner position at KBR?
KBR is looking for someone to join the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) Mission Operations team and be trained to become a Science Mission Planner. LRO is a NASA robotic spacecraft currently orbiting the moon in an eccentric polar mapping orbit. LRO data is essential for planning NASA’s human and robotic missions to the Moon.
The LRO Science Mission Planner will become the MOT resident expert in slew planning and constraint verification.

Responsibilities:
- Keep track of all slews (bookkeeping)
- Run ATTMAN, SVT, GSIT and GSAT tools for special slew requests
- Work with the Science Teams to help design their slews and special/complex slews
- Responsible for knowing in advance what instrument activities are coming in the future
- First line of review before getting System Engineering involved
Other MOT duties as assigned:
- Monitor the health and safety of the LRO spacecraft and ground system
- Monitor real-time activities and transmit daily loads to LRO
- Respond to, identify and investigate spacecraft and ground anomalies
- Write and maintain daily operations records – daily blogs, activity requests, engineering changes, etc
- Perform daily mission planning activities
- Perform daily trending and data analysis activities
- Perform verification testing using the LRO Spacecraft Simulator for all off-nominal activities prior to use on the spacecraft
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
- B.S. in engineering or related field. Preferably aerospace
- 5 years related experience
- Experience with use of the Attitude Ground System (AGS)
- Knowledge of attitude kinematics and orbital mechanics
- Good communication skills
- Self-motivated; able to work autonomously, with minimal direction
- Works well with a team

- Experience in spacecraft operations
- Experience with flight dynamics and ground networks
- Windows and UNIX experience
